Kmart shoppers call out major blunder in 2024 Christmas range: 'What a joke'
The store’s festive attire has caused quite a stir online.
If you’ve ever dreamed of having a white Christmas, then you’d know that Australia isn’t the place to fulfil that fantasy. Unlike other parts of the world where you can enjoy cold winter nights by the fireplace during the festive season, Christmas Down Under often involves a barbecue, the beach, and enjoying the hot summer sun.
It appears Kmart Australia might not be aware of this major cultural difference, however, with the popular retail store recently announcing its 2024 Christmas collection featuring plenty of festive jumpers, vests and cardigans. The colourful attire is adorned with classic Christmas emblems, including candy canes, mistletoe, reindeer, bows, snowmen and trees.

While the items are perfect for a ‘Christmas in July’ event or an ‘ugly sweater’ party, shoppers have been left baffled by Kmart’s decision to sell winter attire for a summer holiday. Content creator @tootushi recently shared a video showcasing the store’s Christmas collection and was flooded with confused comments from followers.
“Did Kmart miss the memo that it’s SUMMER at Christmas,” one person wrote, while another added, “I still have no idea why they sell winter Christmas stuff in Australia”.
“I love the jumpers but never get why they do it when we have summer in December,” a third wrote, followed by someone else who said, “Have these makers never experienced a summer in Australia? No need for jumpers”.
“Christmas is one of the hottest times of the year, no one is wearing a Christmas jumper,” a different user replied, with another remarking, “In summer we have winter Christmas clothes. Pathetic, what a joke”.
Meanwhile, plenty of people pointed out that it’s not always scorching hot across Australia in December and the jumpers will also come in handy for Christmas parties, pageants, carols and work events.
“It poured with rain and we had hail storms in Victoria last year. It was cold,” one person argued, followed by another who said, “Wasn’t [hot] last year in Adelaide, was actually quite cold”.
“Watched the carols in the pouring rain last year, it was definitely jumper weather,” someone else remarked, while a different user commented, “It’s always cold at work, I have to get me one this year”.
Kmart's 2024 Christmas collection divides shoppers
This comes shortly after Melbourne-based content creator Mark Polchleb (@markp_) shared a TikTok showcasing some of Kmart’s quirky home decor which seems to centre around one thing - Christmas pudding.
The range includes a $10 pudding doormat, a $14 pudding cushion, a $10 2-pack pudding serving dishes, a $5 pudding mug, and a $5 pudding soap dispenser.

“It’s never too early!” he wrote in the caption. “Already obsessed with this first look of Kmart Christmas decor. They are already nailing the cutesy, dopamine festive decor trend and I am here for it!”
Shoppers took to the comments to praise the new range and say they will be “running to Kmart”, with many describing the pudding doormat as the must-have item for Christmas this year.
