Jacquemus is set to launch a beauty line – here's what we know so far
It's been confirmed that the French fashion brand Jacquemus will be expanding into the beauty space following an investment from the cosmetic conglomerate L'Oréal, as per a news release from the L'Oréal group.
The president of L'Oréal Luxe, Cyril Chapuy, announced in a statement: "We are thrilled to welcome Jacquemus and unleash together its outstanding luxury beauty potential. With its singular brand positioning, fuelled by sensational creativity and social-first playfulness, Jacquemus will perfectly complement L’Oréal Luxe’s portfolio of iconic brands and reinforce our worldwide leadership."
There have been murmurs of the designer's foray into beauty for a couple of years, with the expansion seeming increasingly likely following Jacquemus' ever-growing success through its ready-to-wear collections and celebrity clients including Kendall Jenner and Dua Lipa.
This isn't the first time that an outside investment has been made in the brand with a view to expand into beauty; Puig, the Spanish fashion and beauty company, bought a 10 per cent share in Jacquemus in 2021, although the deal quickly dissolved with Jacquemus repurchasing the stake in 2022.
A move into beauty would see the French luxury brand follow in the steps of Celine, which has recently widened its remit into the make-up sphere, as well as the likes of Prada, Tom Ford and Gucci. While it's not yet confirmed whether the brand will look to venture in fragrance, skincare, or make-up, founder and creative director Simon Porte Jacquemus has stated that "perfume and beauty [were] always part of my vision for the brand," which points towards plans to encompass scent and cosmetics into his eponymous brand.
The French house does possess a unique positioning in the fashion industry, with a huge Gen-Z fan base and innovative approach to social media marketing, making it possible that its beauty line would take a similarly unconventional route. Jacquemus will sit under the L’Oréal Luxe division alongside big beauty players including YSL, Valentino, Mugler, Prada, and Giorgio Armani Beauty.
