‘Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage’ Leads Strong Thursday Night Comedy Slate For CBS
EXCLUSIVE: CBS seems to be generating plenty of laughs with its Thursday night comedy slate.
Led by Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, the network averaged 5.62M viewers across primetime on February 6, which is up 7% from the week prior, according to early live + same-day Nielsen data. In fact, CBS boasted the top four programs of the night, effectively dominating primetime.

As mentioned Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage was the top program of the night with 6.54M viewers tuning in — a 3% lift from the series’ season-to-date average and up 4% from the audience the week prior.
That’s just slightly under the 6.56M viewers that Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage tallied for its premiere episode, which still stands at the series-high audience. It’s quite possible that Thursday night’s episode will actually beat that record when final Nielsen data is in later Friday.
Meanwhile, Ghosts retained a good portion of that audience from 8:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., averaging 5.49M viewers. That’s pretty on par with the show’s usual performance, with a slight 1% uptick from the show’s season-to-date average. It was also up 3% over the week prior.
At 9, Matlock swelled back to 6.14M viewers, which is an 8% increase over the previous week’s audience. That’s actually down a bit over the season average, with is around 6.4M, but it seems as though the show has been off to a bit of a slower start since it returned after midseason. It’s possible we’ll see Matlock pick up some more momentum leading to the Season 1 finale.
Elsbeth fell to 4.71M viewers in the 10 p.m. hour, which makes sense given that later programming tends to see smaller same-day audiences. Still, last night’s audience was up 8% from the season average and 11% from the prior week.
Same-day viewership is a mixed bag when it comes to determining the success of linear television anymore, since many people opt to watch these shows as they become available on streaming.
CBS still tends to have quite strong same-day numbers, likely due in part to the fact that their overall audience skews a bit older than the other broadcasters. However, it’ll certainly give a better indication of how these series are performing when delayed viewing data is available.
