Dream Home viewers call out morbid detail in kitchen reveal: 'What were they thinking?'
The judges agreed sisters Taeler and Elle had ‘gone too bold’ with their transformation.
They’ve been riding high on the leaderboard all season, but sisters Taeler and Elle finally took a tumble during Sunday night’s episode of Dream Home. The duo decided to take on four spaces this week and bravely set out to transform their laundry, powder room, butler’s party and kitchen.
While they received praise for their aesthetic and incorporation of stone and gold in each of the rooms, the judges criticised their kitchen for its lack of functionality and overall design. The kitchen featured a sweeping veined stone benchtop and splashback, a large island bench with a stovetop, and a sink tucked away in the corner next to the doorway to the butler’s pantry.

“I’ve never seen a kitchen with so much veining going on in my life,” Lana Taylor commented.
“Immediately I just feel disappointed,” Rosie Morley remarked. “Because there is a way to do en masse stone, but I don’t think they got it quite right here.”
“It’s like we’re in a stone factory,” Simon Cohen said, to which Rosie replied, “It’s like we’re in a quarry.”
The judges also disapproved of the two lights “plonked front and centre” on the splashback, the impractical sink placement, and the lack of joinery on display.
“What’s disappointing is [the sink] is probably, next to the fridge, the most utilised item in the kitchen, and you’re over here with not even elbow room for doing the dishes,” Lana detailed. “It’s just too far in the corner.”
“This whole wall could’ve been beautiful joinery with glass panels,” Simon added. “It’s just too much stone. I think they’ve gone too bold, too hard.”
Viewers slam 'bland and boring' kitchen
Viewers took to social media to share their thoughts on the kitchen, with many pointing out that it has a similar vibe to a morgue.
“I just realised that the wall to wall stone kitchen reminds me of a mortuary, the island is like a slab where the bodies lay,” one person posted on X.
“That kitchen looks like a mausoleum. What were Taeler and Elle thinking?” another added.
“Nope. Don’t like the sisters’ kitchen,” a third wrote, while someone else called it “bland and boring”.

Taeler and Elle were given a total score of 19 out of 30 at the end of the episode, putting them at the bottom of this week’s leaderboard.
“It’s hard when you don’t have all of your hard work rewarded,” they said. “We fought really hard for the kitchen, we believed really strongly in the design.”
