Carrie Fisher Fans Mourn as She's Reunited With Beloved Family Member in Heaven: He's 'One With the Force'

The late Carrie Fisher's beloved dog, Gary, has passed away.

The Instagram account for the French bulldog announced his death on Sunday, Feb. 2, noting that the pup was just a few weeks away from turning 13. Following Fisher's death, Gary went to live with her assistant, Corby McCoin.

"This is the hardest post I have EVER had to make," read the caption on a photo of Gary with his trademark tongue sticking out.

"Gary crossed over the rainbow bridge to be with his mom Thursday night 💔💔💔 it has been a very hard 2 days without him," the post continued.

"He was such an amazing lil fur baby to me, his fans, friends and the joy he brought will be irreplaceable. The first 5 years with Carrie and Gary were amazing and when she left us Gary and I continued on for the next 8 years. He never left my side and he was truly my best friend. His heavenly birthday is in 3 weeks and he would’ve turned 13. Let’s give him a proper send off and share all your photos on the day. February 21, 2025 🐶"

Gary's fans expressed their condolences in the comments.

"May you be one with the force always, Gary, we will all miss you dearly. 🕊️❤️" wrote one person, as another echoed, "Gary is now one with The Force."

"I just know his reunion with Carrie was so beautiful 🥺❤️ RIP Gary thank you for the joy you brought so many of us! Sending so much love to y’all, thank you for loving him," a second Instagram user added.

"@officialcarriefisher was at the end of that bridge waiting to give him the warmest hug though. Mom and son are together again ❤️," someone else chimed in.

Fisher's daughter, actress Billie Lourd, also paid tribute to Gary with a video posted to her Instagram Stories featuring her mom and the bulldog at a sidewalk café.

As People reported, Fisher adopted Gary from Lourd as a service dog to help her cope with bipolar disorder. The canine went on to win the hearts of fans everywhere with his appearances at red carpet events and on talk shows, particularly during the press tour for 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

When Fisher suffered a massive heart attack in December 2016, Gary stayed by her side at the hospital. The actress passed away four days later at the age of 60.
