Daddy Yankee and Wife Mireddys González Split After Nearly 30 Years of Marriage: 'This Is Not an Easy Time'
"I know that this news may surprise many," the Puerto Rican rapper said on his Instagram Stories on Monday, Dec. 2 while announcing the couple's split
Daddy Yankee and his wife Mireddys González have split after nearly 30 years of marriage.
On Monday, Dec. 2, the Puerto Rican rapper (born Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez) shared a statement on his Instagram Stories, confirming he and González, both 47, had called it quits after tying the knot in March 1995.
"With a heart full of respect and honesty, I want to share some important news about my personal life," a message translated from Spanish read.
The "Dura" singer wrote of his high school sweetheart, "After more than two decades of marriage and after many months of trying to save my marriage, which my wife and I share, today my lawyers responded to the divorce petition received from Mireddys."

"I respect Mireddys' decision," he wrote, adding that he appreciates the time they shared "full of blessings and values, of love and with a beautiful family that will continue to be our priority."
"This is not an easy time, but I understand that it is part of my life process," Daddy Yankee explained, noting that it was time to "accept and continue."
Giving a mention to the couple's two kids — daughter Jesaaelys, 28, and son Jeremy, 26, (he also has another daughter, Yamilet, from a previous relationship) — the musician continued, "Protect my stability, my children and everything built over so many years. I deeply thank those who have accompanied us during this journey and I ask that you respect our privacy in this process. I know that this news may surprise many."

"Thank you for your unconditional support. This will be my only statement," Daddy Yankee, known as the "King of Reggaetón," shared.
The former couple has kept their relationship fairly private through the years, but the singer did mention his wife and kids while speaking to People en Español in 2022, calling his family “the most beautiful thing” in his life.

Daddy Yankee added at the time, “My wife and my children are my treasure, the reason why I work day after day to try to give them a better life, to make a legacy for them, so that they do not have the difficulties that I have gone through in this life."
The former couple were thought to have dated for several years before getting married.
He'd previously told Billboard in 2017 that González was in love with "Raymond Ayala. She's not in love with DY."
"Once you become a superstar, it's very difficult to find a real, real woman. I met her before I was Daddy Yankee so she's the right one," Daddy Yankee told the outlet.
