While it’s been just over a month since this year’s season of My Kitchen Rules came to an end, an American viewer has savaged the reality show after they only recently finished watching it. Taking to Reddit this week, the social media user called out four “American observations” that left them particularly outraged.

Firstly, the user said they hated the constant use of the pet name “babes” and called it “the most abhorrent word ever”. Fans would remember that lovebirds Hannah and Lawrence repeatedly used the term of endearment on the show, especially during their first Instant Restaurant.

The next two grievances had to do with the type of food the contestants served the judges, which many Australians wouldn’t agree with.

“Stop hating chocolate and peanut butter. Reese’s cups are one of God’s gifts to the world,” they wrote, adding, “Watching a bunch of Aussies attempting American diner food is hilarious. I promise, chicken and waffles is amazing, especially when accompanied by fried green tomatoes.

“The most authentic would have been SOS, but that’s even hard for some Americans to accept. If you ever visit the US I highly recommend dropping by the local diner.”

The viewer’s final observation was that they still didn’t understand Australia’s “electric kettle obsession” as Americans mostly boil their water on the stove. They added: “I guess it’s because we drink a lot more coffee than tea.”

Unsurprisingly, the post received a mixed response from Australian MKR viewers. While plenty of people agreed that “babes is truly the most annoying word”, the idea that American chocolate tasted better than Australian left fans outraged.

“Reese's peanut butter cups are absolutely gross because American chocolate tastes disgusting. Have lived in the US but will never eat American chocolate ever again,” one person commented.

“American chocolate is literally made of vomit, yuck you deserve better,” another added. “Good chocolate and good peanut butter are great though.”

Someone else also took it upon themselves to share why electric kettles are more common in Australia than America, explaining that American homes have 120V power while Aussies have 240V.

“A kettle is just a heated element in water. So the reason Yanks don't usually use kettles is because they take FOREVER to boil on 120V power. An Aussie 240V kettle will boil literally twice as fast and be dramatically more power efficient than other ways of heating water,” they said.
