Aldi shoppers delighted by hatching egg toy: 'Kept my kids entertained all week'

The toy is getting rave reviews from parents who say it's been a hit with their kids for days on end.

Let's be honest, in the midst of the chaos of parenting, finding a toy that keeps the kids entertained for more than a hot minute is like striking gold. Aldi's Special Buys are legendary for finding hidden treasures for the kiddos, and the latest item taking the cake is a humble $1.99 hatching egg toy that's causing quite the stir among parents and kids alike.

In the Aldi Mums Facebook group, one savvy mum couldn't contain her excitement, revealing her find and exclaiming, "It's still growing! This Dino egg has kept my kids entertained for a week!"

"It's keeping us all entertained on a daily basis," another mum agreed, with a third chiming in, "All I've heard today is 'Mum come look, it's hatched a little more!'"

"Pure excitement in our household also!"

The concept is simple but oh-so-magical: submerge the egg in water, and watch as it slowly hatches to reveal a surprise creature inside. The anticipation alone is enough to keep the little ones glued for hours.

But it's not just the youngsters awaiting the big reveal. The online community is buzzing with curiosity, with parents sharing the progress of their eggs.

One user joyfully exclaimed, "Ours hatched today!" while playfully christening the creature inside as a "girafficorn," owing to its unicorn-like appearance with an elongated neck.

Egg-citement for all ages

Indeed, parents seem just as thrilled as their kids with the whole hatching process from go to whoa.

"This hatching dinosaur egg is the most exciting thing happening in my life right now..." wrote one mum. Another, without an egg of her own, hilariously remarked, "I don't have one, so me seeing all the photos is the most exciting thing happening in my life right now."

Some group members enquired about the hatching timeline, with most agreeing that it takes approximately a day and a half for the toy inside to begin emerging.

"The box says once it's hatched, submerge it in water for up to a week for it to grow to full size" one group member advised.

And what's inside? Among the myriad of creatures awaiting their grand reveal are unicorns, bunnies, and a host of prehistoric pals like spinosaurs, tyrannosaurs and triceratops.

"My son hatched one scary-looking bunny with red eyes, he loves it! This is too cute!"

Of course, with every sought-after item comes the inevitable FOMO (fear of missing out).

"Now I want one," one person wrote.

"I'm upset I missed out," lamented one parent, recounting their fruitless search across multiple stores, "I want them for my kids!"

But hope springs eternal, and the egg-citement doesn't end with Aldi. While the toys were originally found in the Aldi Special Buys before easter, group members also revealed sightings at Kmart and the Reject Shop, ensuring everyone has a chance to join in on the fun.
