This nifty little gadget is causing quite the buzz among foodies and toasted sandwich lovers, offering a promise of quick and easy cooking with minimal cleanup. Just slap together your sandwich as usual, put it in the microwave toastie maker, toss it in the microwave for 2-3 minutes, and voila!

Some early adopters have certainly been singing its praises. "I got one for Christmas, I LOVE IT. The sandwiches turn out crispy and tastes great," raved one satisfied user on Facebook.

"I love these things," agreed another. "Can confirm it works great," chimed in yet another fan.

While Big W has had a similar offering since last December, priced at $29, Aldi has stepped up its game with their own Joie brand version, now available for just $19.95 as a Special Buy. And let's just say, the Aldi version is causing quite a stir on social media since its release, with delighted shoppers proudly sharing photos of their finds all over Facebook.

Social media meltdown

But, as with any trend, there are a few bumps in the road. It seems like some eager beavers may have jumped on the bandwagon a bit too soon. Negative reviews started trickling in after folks gave it a whirl over the weekend. Soggy sandwiches, burnt edges, and a whole lot of disappointment started cropping up.

"So many people have jumped on today saying these haven't worked - thanks for the heads up!" shared one disillusioned customer. And let's not forget the poor soul who posted a snap of their sorry excuse for a toastie in the Aldi mums Facebook group. "Epic fail," they declared, and from the looks of the image she shared (above left), we couldn't agree more.

"Any hints? Mine was horrible," one user lamented.

"I got one and tried it. What a waste of money. I will be returning it tomorrow," another added. "Soggy," chimed in yet another disappointed shopper. "It is the worst thing I have ever bought, tried several times, different ways. It did not work."

Achieving toastie perfection

But don't despair just yet. There are a few tips floating around to help you achieve toastie perfection. Preheat the sandwich maker for a couple of minutes beforehand, and don't forget to butter the outside for that extra crunch.

But here's a word to the wise: sometimes, the cheaper versions simply don't measure up. While they might save you a few bucks upfront, you often get what you pay for. Many users have recommended opting for the OG version of the microwave toastie maker from Morphy Richards ($59.95), Micro Munchy ($49.95) or Turbo Toastie ($69.95) if you're after the real deal.

"You pay for what you get," warned one seasoned toastie connoisseur. "Ours didn't go crispy," they lamented, and we can practically taste the disappointment.
