Today's Karl Stefanovic addresses bizarre Kochie joke at Logies: 'Funny'
The Channel Nine star has poked fun at himself following his spectacular bomb.
Today host Karl Stefanovic has addressed his awkward joke towards his former breakfast TV rival David ‘Kochie’ Koch at the 2023 Logie Awards, which was roasted both on social media and by host Sam Pang later in the show.
Before presenting the In Memoriam segment, Karl took a dig at the ex-Sunrise host for previously saying he enjoys watching the Australian TV series Bump and seemingly made a joke about cocaine.
“I did also want to just check something, I am pretty sure before I heard Kochie say he loves Bumps… season 3,” he said.
“Did anyone else hear that? Because I am pretty sure I did. Anyway, those are the headlines tomorrow morning.”

Kochie appeared less than impressed by the random dig towards him, while comedian Sam Pang later said: “I don't want to say that Karl Stefanovic's joke about Kochie sank, but OceanGate is offering expeditions to visit it.”
Karl has now poked fun at the cringe-worthy moment himself while hosting Today on Monday morning.
The breakfast show aired a highlights package of Sam Pang’s jokes from the night, including his dig at Karl, before cutting to Karl in the studio standing with his co-stars Sarah Abo and Brooke Boney.
“You see, that is a funny man,” he said before pretending to burst into tears.
“Oh Karl, you’re all right! You’re okay,” Sarah and Brooke reassured him as they gave him a hug. “Poor bubba.”

Karl also spoke about the “controversy” surrounding his joke on The Kyle & Jackie O show and admitted even his wife Jasmine wasn’t a fan.
“I don’t know what makes me do these things but I just thought, ‘That’s funny’, because that’s what I thought he said,” he explained.
“There really wasn’t much laughter. It was one of those really totally awkward moments. I got back to my seat, and you know how our partners generally support us with our great gags? Jasmine just went, ‘That one went flat!’.”

Kyle, who admitted he was a big fan of the joke himself, then called Kochie to add him to the conversation and “make sure there’s no beef”.
“Were you annoyed at Karl’s joke or were you just caught up in the confusion?” Kyle asked.
“I was just caught up in the confusion,” he replied. “To be honest, I’m not au fait with cocaine terminology, I must admit. I was just talking about my favourite show!”
