The Block's Ricky and Haydn reveal truth about Jesse and Paige's 'edit'
EXCLUSIVE: The fan favourites spill on what the controversial couple were really like during filming.
The Block’s Ricky and Haydn have defended their co-stars Jesse and Paige following their controversial portrayal on the renovation reality series. While the best mates and loveable larrikins have already been deemed ‘fan favourites’ this season, the newly engaged couple have copped backlash online as viewers accuse them of having a “toxic relationship”.
Jesse and Paige have been shown arguing several times throughout the competition, however, one of their biggest fights took place towards the end of Wednesday night’s episode. Following a series of setbacks, the pair had a tense argument about their lack of communication and “wasting time” while seemingly unaware that their microphones were still on.
“I’m sick of f**king wasting time!” Jesse yelled. “It’s all we’re doing, wasting time. Can we just like, get on with it, please? I’m sorry we didn’t talk about it more, alright? Sorry for yelling, I’m just frustrated because it’s like we’re just going backwards again.”
“I don’t give a f**k what you are,” Paige bluntly replied.

Speaking with Yahoo Lifestyle about their fiery co-stars, Ricky and Haydn assert that Jesse and Paige were “great people” to be around during filming and they don’t deserve the hate they’re receiving on social media.
“I think it's pretty obvious that Jesse and Paige had their dramas and I think Australia’s going to see that and they're going to take it how they like, but they're such great people. I really had a great time with them and I thought they were great people,” Ricky shares.
“We were a couple of houses down the block and I think Haydn might’ve seen more than I did, but I was a bit oblivious to [their dramas]. I was just trying to design rooms and trying to keep everyone in check and I suppose you can be on the same block and be metres away but not know exactly what's going on.
“I enjoyed The Block as much as I could and I had such a great time doing it, but it does make me sad that there are people that maybe didn't have that same experience.”
Ricky and Haydn's message to viewers
Ricky emphasises that viewers need to understand drama is inevitable on The Block because it is a “complete pressure cooker environment”.
“Unfortunately, that situation is always going to get drama and I think that's what people don't really understand,” he details. “The situations that you're in, the limited sleep you get, what you're trying to achieve and the pressure that you're under to try and make budgets and all the rest of it, unfortunately, the dramas are always going to happen.
“I think it's easy to sit on your couch with a tub of ice cream and go, 'Oh, that's a heap of drama’, but if you consider the big picture, people are under so much pressure. I think if you've got any sort of fracture in anything, it's going to come out. And if you're trying to be someone that you're not, it's probably going to come out.”

The best mates went on to say that while they came out of the reality show with a much stronger relationship, the challenges the contestants are put through “would be enough to break any person”.
“Being contestants on the show and going through our own challenges and being absolutely pummelled and taking hit after hit, the problems keep rolling in faster than you can even think to before you can even react to the first one and it’s definitely enough to break any person,” Haydn remarks. “You can understand why some people struggle to deal with situations.”
“It's easy to look at The Block and go, ‘It's just about renovating’, but it’s about being able to roll with the punches and overcoming challenges and being able to move on with the next moment. That’s definitely one thing I didn’t consider,” Ricky adds.
“But I think we're lucky enough that that’s just something we’re used to doing. Just rolling with it, laughing in the face of danger, and enjoying ourselves along the way.”
