The Block's Mitch and Mark on Tanya cheating scandal: 'Deserves a chance'

The Block 2021 winners Mitch and Mark regularly clashed with fellow contestant Tanya on the show and now that the truth behind the photo cheating scandal has finally been shared, the have pair issued a statement about "the purple headed girl & the face of the big lie".

Taking to their Instagram account on Monday, Mitch and Mark - who won an incredible $744K after auction day - asked fans of the show to "give her a chance", after she finally admitted she was the one who took the photo of the production schedule.

"She made a mistake. Have you ever made a mistake & tried to cover it up, it gained momentum and before you knew, there was no way out, you’d dug such a big hole you couldn’t see any way out," they wrote.

"Imagine doing this on the biggest show on Australian television … This is what happened to Tanya."

While they go on to say "she stuffed up" they admit they "too made mistakes".

"If you’ve ever made errors in judgement in your life that has embarrassed you, please consider what Tanya has gone thru & is dealing with before you judge her, she deserves a chance," they continued.

"We know this is difficult and we’ve had time to talk with Tanya and support her to move forward, please join us and give Tanya a chance, we all deserve it."

The Block presenter Shelley Craft echoed Mitch and Mark’s sentiments, commenting on their post: "No truer words spoken boys. If the ones affected most are happy to (move) forward …. then that should be good enough for everyone!"

During the explosive Grand Finale of The Block, Tanya broke down in tears when the contestants all reunited for auction day.

"I don‘t think anybody is as embarrassed or as disappointed as me. I am not a stupid woman but I did a stupid thing," she said.

Luke and Josh were the ones who decided to finally reveal the truth behind the infamous photo, which caused the production schedule to be reshuffled, with Josh explaining it was Tanya who had taken the photo.

"She said, 'I want to take a photo. Will you come and be basically on guard for me when I take the photo?' I said, yeah, of course I am happy to do that. So Tanya went in there, took the photos, and then she ended up sending them to Luke," Josh said.

In an interview with the producers Tanya confirmed the tale, saying: "What I want to say is that obviously I take full responsibility for this situation and I'm sorry, I'm truly sorry."

Though while Mitch and Mark seem to want to put the drama of the season behind them, fellow contestants Ronnie and Georgia - who ended up winning the least amount of money - appeared to take a subtle swipe at Tanya and Vito after the finale.

"Our Block journey might not have ended the way we planned but it’s still such a fabulous financial outcome for our family," they wrote on Instagram.

"We hold our heads high knowing we left nothing in the tank, did the best we could whilst playing an honest and fair game. Being on the smallest parcel of land and positioned on a corner were factors out of our control."
