Sunrise's Edwina Bartholomew's heartfelt message after shock cancer diagnosis
The 41-year-old Sunrise star revealed she has been diagnosed with Chronic myeloid leukaemia.
Sunrise star Edwina Bartholomew has thanked her friends and followers in a heartfelt Instagram post after revealing her shock cancer diagnosis earlier this morning on Sunrise. The 41-year-old broke down in tears as she let the audience know that she had been diagnosed with Chronic myeloid leukaemia, a condition that she thankfully found early and is currently being treated through taking a daily tablet.
Edwina revealed she had no "signs or symptoms" but had started prioritising her health after she turned 40, getting a skin check, mammogram, an eye check, and some routine blood tests which showed "some levels out of whack".
"Please, particularly for mums who always take care of everyone else, please take care of yourself too, and just check in with your doctor," Edwina tearfully said.

On air, Edwina thanked her Sunrise family for their support, and has now taken to Instagram to extend the message.
"Thank you. Thank you so much for all the love. This past month has been such a strangely joyous time," she wrote.
"The day I got back from having my bone marrow biopsy, Tom [Edwina's son] insisted on taking the door snake to the park. It made me laugh so much to accompany him down the street with the damn thing flung over his shoulder," she shared. "It was a lovely reminder that life goes on. I have been ocean swimming, dreaming up plans with @neilwrites and handing out a lot of hugs. Long may that continue xx."

Edwina's husband's health battle
Edwina's cancer news comes nearly a year after her husband Neil Varcoe shared that he was battling chronic fatigue syndrome, with Edwina calling a 'really tough' illness.
Speaking to the Australian Women's Weekly last year, Neil said he felt like he had 'nothing left' when it came to his energy levels.
"It just really knocked me," Neil told the publication. "I was sick for about three weeks and my energy went through the floor. There were moments when I would walk to the end of my street, and I had to turn around and come back home. I had nothing left."

He credited his wife for her support, as they raised their two young kids together.
"With Edwina's support, I've had to make really tough decisions," he shared. "Some days, for instance, I'll only be able to read Molly and Tom a story, but I won't be able to be involved in the bath. It sounds like a small thing but some days that's where you're at ... If you don't respect it, it just wrestles you to the ground."
Edwina teared up during the interview, describing the first few weeks of motherhood as "overwhelming" as she wasn't able to lean on Neil as much, and this was heightened when they welcomed their son.
"Second time around, it was just as intense for those first six or eight weeks," Edwina said. "You just go, 'Oh my gosh, this is confronting.'"
