Sunrise star apologises to viewers after X-rated moment live on-air

Edwina Bartholomew couldn't stop laughing at the incident.

Sunrise presenter Edwina Bartholomew issued an apology to viewers during Monday morning’s broadcast after the Channel Seven breakfast show aired some rather confronting footage live on-air.

Eddy and Mark Beretta, who have been filling in for the show’s regular hosts Nat Barr and David ‘Kochie’ Koch over the holiday period, were speaking with Sunrise bird expert Dr Grainne Cleary about a life-saving breeding program when things turned X-rated.

While Dr Cleary spoke about the difficulties of bird matchmaking, the hosts couldn’t stop giggling as footage of birds mating in the wild played on TV.

The 30-second video montage featured pairs of eagles, ibises and other birds procreating in nests, trees and bird boxes, leaving Eddy and Mark in tears of laughter.

“Grainne, I’ve noticed our bird content has risen exponentially since we found you, and we’re all the more grateful for it,” Eddy said while trying to contain her laughter. “Thank you so much for coming on this morning.

“And apologies to viewers who had to explain that vision to their children who are watching this morning!”

Filling their guest in on the joke, Mark told Grainne: “While you were speaking we had great matchmaking moments of birds around the world on the screen. It was a nature experience this morning.”

“Those eagles really were getting on well,” Eddy said through tears.

“The ibises surprised me!” Mark laughed, to which she replied, “They always do, Beretts!”

'Hilarious'

After a clip of the segment was posted on social media, a number of viewers took to the comments to share their thoughts.

“Loved this, so funny!” one person wrote, while another added, “Hilarious!”

“I don't normally watch that show but happened to be watching it at someone else's house, and gee it was funny!” a third shared. “That bird expert should have her own show! She was hilarious!”

Other followers complimented Eddy and Mark’s time fronting the show, describing the past week as “the best week of Sunrise ever” and suggesting they become permanent hosts in the future.
