Sunrise star James Tobin strips off live on-air: 'I'll do it'

The Sunrise weatherman did not back down from the dare.

Sunrise star James Tobin has certainly been keeping viewers entertained while filling in for weatherman Sam Mac.

He looked relaxed as he dipped his feet in the water at the Merewether baths in Newcastle while speaking to Edwina Bartholomew and Mark Beretta who were presenting in the studio on Tuesday.

"Not a bad way to start the day," he said while basking in the sunshine.

"There are so many friendly locals, this is a great spot."

Edwina and Mark then thought it would be a good idea to convince James to really make the most of his surroundings by stripping off and jumping in the water.

"JT I know you're precious about your hair, it looks good all the time but I reckon you could get in," Edwina egged on the weatherman as Mark agreed.

"I mean, it's the week between Christmas and New Year."

It didn't take James much convincing as Mark added: "So good to start the day ... just pop the mic down."

James accepted the dare and started to pull off the microphones attached to him before stripping off his shirt and jumping in the water for a swim.

"I'll do it," he could be heard saying.

"The audio guys are going, 'Do not jump in with that microphone', just get in," Edwina urged.

After he cooled down and got back out of the water the hosts said it was time for him to get back to work.

"It didn't take much convincing from Edwina and Mark for James to strip off and jump in the water," a caption on a video posted to Instagram said.

Viewers praised the star for jumping in the water without a second thought.

"Looking good! More topless weather from JT!" one commented.

"Good work JT," another said.

"He's such a hunk," a third added.
