“Star Wars” Actress Philicia Saunders Ties the Knot in “Bridgerton”-Style Wedding
“I would always watch movies like 'Shakespeare in Love' and I’d be like, ‘...I would love to wear a nice corset and a beautiful big skirt,'" Saunders said
Actress Philicia Saunders exchanged a galaxy far, far away for the regency era for her nuptials!
The Star Wars star wed voice actor Jordan Wilson clad in a Bridgerton-themed wedding at the Ebell Club Long Beach in Long Beach, Calif. on Nov. 10, according to The New York Times.
The bride dressed in a Vivienne Atelier Bridal dress, with a wide skirt that gave off the silhouette of a ballgown, while Wilson wore a burgundy tuxedo for the nuptials before changing into a Regency-style coat for their reception and first dance — a detail the couple had planned with a purpose.
“I would always watch movies like Shakespeare in Love and I’d be like, ‘Oh my god, I would love to wear a nice corset and a beautiful big skirt,' but someone that looks like me won’t be anywhere in that time period unless she’s a servant,” she told NYT. “Bridgerton came out and it turned that stereotype on its head. You could see yourself in those spaces.”
Their invitations also reflected this by requesting that their guests celebrate the union between “Lady Saunders and Lord Wilson” inside an invitation with a wax seal. The couple’s wedding photos and first dance were also Bridgerton-coded, as they started the dance off with Wilson kissing her hand before waltzing around the ballroom with choreography from the show.
In their wedding photos, they also took the chance to dress up in the theme, with the groom wearing a blue velvet tailcoat and the bride wearing a cream-colored lacy Victorian gown that flared out at the sides.

Their wedding attire is not so far off what they do normally, as they often plan couples’ costumes for conventions and Renaissance Faires. The couple told the NYT that it was this love for movies and TV — and stepping into character — that brought them together.
“It’s about not letting go of your inner child and just enjoying the things that make you happy,” Wilson noted to the outlet.
The two, who both worked at J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot company initially bonded over an anime character who Wilson had worn on a t-shirt. Wilson eventually asked her out and the rest was history.

“Finding a nerd was something I’ve always wanted in a partner,” Saunders told the outlet. “... He’s charismatic, he’s funny, I love his smile. When he’s happy and energetic, it’s very contagious.”
They had their first date in 2022, and a little over a year later, Wilson popped the question at an Airbnb in Tarzana, Calif., with their loved ones watching from an iPad he had set up. Saunders recalled, “It was an easy yes.”
The ceremony the Saunders and Wilson envisioned was pulled off to perfection, and the pair noted in their vows that they couldn’t have found anyone else better to have shared this special connection with.
“You have helped me discover the best version of myself, a journey that I have been on my entire life,” Saunders said. Her groom echoed similar sentiments, saying, “You encourage me to reach higher than I thought I could reach every day.”
