‘You Sound Sexy’: Kid Rock’s Attempt to Flirt With BBC Host Derails Interview
The BBC’s coverage of Donald Trump’s inauguration included an extremely awkward moment in which Kid Rock tried to flirt with a female host.
Caitríona Perry, the British broadcaster’s chief anchor based in Washington, D.C., asked the musician about his plans are for Monday—the day after he performed at Trump’s “Victory Rally” in the capital. Kid Rock answered by saying he was thinking about going to the Canadian embassy “and maybe employing them to be our 51st state with governor Wayne Gretzky,” adding that he also intends to “have a good time, because I’m done with work so I can actually celebrate the rebirth of America today.”
“What about you?” Kid Rock continued, addressing Perry, who spoke to him via satellite link as she broadcast from a roof near Capitol Hill. “What are you doing? Where you at?”
The Irish journalist laughed before replying: “Well I’m standing on a rooftop in these very, very chilly conditions and will be on air for 11 or 12 hours, so I don’t think I’ll have anywhere near as fun a day as you have planned for yourself there—that sounds like you got the better deal here indeed.”
“I can’t see you right now so I don’t know what you look like,” the MAGA musician said after taking a puff on a cigar.
“Well I look like I’m ready to hit the slopes,” Perry replied following an awkward pause. “I can tell you I’m in full-on ski gear here with my hat, gloves, the whole thing, ready to rock because you’ve got to be wrapped up against the elements, don’t you?”
“I love to go skiing,” Kid Rock responded. “I love to go skiing. You sound sexy—you want to go with me?”
Perry—clearly unused to being hit on by interviewees supposedly brought on to provide insight into political events—stammered out a single stunned syllable before quickly wrapping things up as professionally as she could.
“Well, we won’t get into that right here,” she said. “We’re doing no skiing today—we’ve got a day of broadcasting to do. But Kid Rock, thank you so much for joining us here on BBC News, enjoy your day.”
“God bless,” he answered.
