After making shock allegations against the producers of her directorial debut The Deb last month and claiming the movie may “get buried”, Rebel Wilson appears to be facing yet another roadblock in her career. An insider tells Yahoo Lifestyle that production on an upcoming feature film starring the Australian actress has been delayed “due to some financial and personal issues”.

The project, which is believed to be titled ‘Thing’, was set to start filming in Australia in less than a month. However, the studios have now been rebooked for January with insiders worried it might not get made at all.

“There are some really big question marks and a dark cloud that is haunting a number of upcoming projects which will need to be addressed before getting the ball rolling again,” a source from the feature film tells Yahoo Lifestyle.

With Rebel speaking up for herself more in recent years - and perhaps ruffling some feathers in the process - there is speculation that investors might be worried about the effect it could potentially have on her popularity.

Another insider claims that Rebel may have some “branding issues” following the release of her headline-making memoir Rebel Rising earlier this year. The Pitch Perfect star is said to have “broken some unspoken rules” with her surprising revelations in the book, including allegations about Sacha Baron Cohen's behaviour on set.

“There are whispers Hollywood isn't happy with her spilling the beans on some hot topics that include talking about salaries, casting producers, and a no-holds-bar approach to talking about her co-stars,” the source adds.

"Rebel is arguably one of Australia's most successful comedians all over the world and for a while everything she touched turned to comedy gold. But the tide has turned and many believe this is a PR nightmare for the actress moving forward.”

Rebel shocked fans last month when she shared claims that the producers of her upcoming film The Deb, which she directed, were attempting to stop the movie from playing at the closing night of the Toronto International Film Festival.

The Bridesmaids actress took to Instagram to share the news, while also alleging that the producers, Amanda Ghost, Gregor Cameron and Vince Holden, took part in "bad behaviour" on set.

“This is the work of hundreds of people who have put their heart and soul into this. And this behaviour is absolutely vile and disgusting,” she said. “I won’t be threatened. I will speak the truth, and warn people about these people in the industry. Who are just not behaving ethically.”

A spokesperson for the producers denied Rebel’s allegations to Yahoo Lifestyle, stating that they are "false, defamatory and very disappointing”.

“Her self-promotional claims are clearly intended to cause reputational harm to the individuals who have supported her directorial debut film The Deb—a joyous movie that we’re very proud of and are looking forward to sharing with audiences,” they said. “For her to promote a false narrative to advance her own agenda undermines the film and all the people who worked on this project.”

It’s since been announced that The Deb will be the closing night film at TIFF next month, with fans taking to social media to praise Rebel for making it happen.

“That's amazing honey! I'm so glad you fought for what you believed in,” Below Deck’s Hannah Ferrier commented, followed by Australian actress Sharon Johal who said, “You did it!!!”.

“Never doubted it, you can make anything possible,” another added, while someone else replied, “Well done Rebel! Way to go! They tried messing with the wrong one. I’m so glad you stuck to your gut & heart on this”.
