As previously reported, McCarthy will play mother Patsy Ramsey and Owen will portray patriarch John Bennett Ramsey in the project.
At its heart, the series centers on the story of Patsy and John Ramsey, “exploring their unbreakable partnership and the complex dynamics of their marriage and parenting. It delves into how they crafted a narrative of a perfect, privileged life for themselves and their children — a facade shattered by tragedy one Christmas night in 1996,” according to the series logline.
Production on the limited series is currently underway in Calgary, Canada, with Academy Award nominee Richard LaGravenese serving as showrunner and executive producer. Half of the eight episodes, including the pilot, will be directed by Anne Sewitsky (Apple TV+’s Presumed Innocent), who will also serve as EP. The series is also executive produced by David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin and McCarthy. Along with LaGravenese, writers Harrison Query and Tommy Wallach — who both sold the project to MTV and 101 Studios — will also serve as executive producers.
The cast also includes Emily Mitchell, Garrett Hedlund, Alison Pill, Owen Teague, Shea Whigham, Will Patton, Clifton Collins Jr, Rory Cochrane, Chris Bauer, Angus Caldwell, John Billingsley, Jeremy Bobb, Jaime Ray Newman, Josh Stamberg and guest star Margo Martindale.
