Neighbours fans devastated after series axed again: 'Beyond gutted'
The Australian soap opera was revived in 2023 after its original cancellation.
Less than two years after returning to screens with a new broadcast partner, it’s been revealed that Neighbours has once again been cancelled. The long-running Australian soap opera was originally axed in 2022 after 37 years but was revived the following year by streaming giant Amazon.
According to The Sun, the show’s production company Fremantle “failed to agree to a new deal” with Amazon to continue the series. Neighbours will reportedly stop filming in the UK summer and will air its final episode at the end of the year.

While the series is yet to release an official statement confirming the rumours, fans have already taken to social media to express their devastation.
“Just heard that #Neighbours is being axed again. I am beyond gutted,” one person wrote on X, while another added, “Neighbours is axed again? FFS why bring it back in the first place then”.
“I can’t say I’m surprised #Neighbours has been AXED again, it was never going to work - it is sad though!” someone else remarked, followed by a different user who said, “I can’t believe it. Please let it not be true #Neighbours to be axed again. Please @PrimeVideo @neighbours say it’s just a rumour”.
Why was Neighbours originally cancelled?
It was announced in March 2022 that Neighbours would cease production after 37 years and over 9000 episodes as it was axed by the UK’s Channel 5 and was unable to secure alternative funding.
“To our amazing, loyal fans, we know this is a huge disappointment, as it is to all of us on the team,” the show said in a statement at the time. “We thank you for all your messages and support and promise to end the show on an incredible high. From here on, we are celebrating Neighbours.”
Over a million Aussie fans tuned in to watch the celebrity-studded finale in July 2022 with former cast members Margot Robbie, Kylie Minogue, Guy Pearce and Jason Donovan making cameos.
The show’s production company Fremantle surprised fans just a few months after the finale aired that it had secured a new broadcast partner and would return to its former home on Channel 10 in Australia and Amazon Freevee in the UK and the US.
Neighbours officially returned in September 2023 with most of the original cast reviving their roles, including Alan Fletcher (Dr Karl Kennedy), Jackie Woodburne (Susan Kennedy), and Ryan Moloney (Jarrod 'Toadfish' Rebecchi).
