A Little House on the Prairie reboot is coming to Netflix. The streamer announced on Wednesday, Jan. 29 that it has greenlit a "reimagining" of the beloved '70s show, which is loosely based on the bestselling books series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Adding to the nostalgia: Trip Friendly, son of original producer Ed Friendly, is among the producers of the show.
“It has been a long-held dream of mine to carry on my father’s legacy and adapt Wilder’s classic American stories for a 21st century audience in a way that brings together fans of both the books and the original television series,” Friendly said in a statement (via Deadline). “I am thrilled by our talented creative team led by [showrunner] Rebecca Sonnenshine who are bringing these beloved stories about family, community, and survival to longtime fans and new generations.”

What is the Little House on the Prairie reboot about?
The reboot is said to be a "reimagining" of the original show, which was loosely based on Laura Ingalls Wilder's book series—itself a fictional retelling of her childhood in the American Midwest in the late 19th century. Like the books, the series followed the Ingalls family, including daughter Laura, her parents Charles ("Pa") and Caroline ("Ma"), and her siblings, Mary, Carrie and later, Grace.
It's unclear how faithful the reboot will be to its source material, but it will presumably be a Western set in the 1890s.
