It wouldn't be a MasterChef Australia elimination episode without some controversy and Sunday night's episode was no exception. In a divisive end to Sweet Week, lettering artist Gillian was sent home on account of her coffee-inspired dessert not being set.

Meanwhile, Pezza was safe yet again despite the presentation of his dish not being the most appealing. Although the judges explained that their decision was based on how the dishes tasted - and that Gillian's was grainy - people still thought it was unfair to send her home.

Taking to social media, viewers expressed their frustration that, once again, the judges seemed to favour Pezza and suggested there was some bias at play. It's not the first time fans have been disgruntled with the Tassie butcher and his ability to "coast" through - not to mention his constant jokes about his wife - but this latest development had people threatening to no longer watch the show.

"Oh my god, Pezza beats Gill with a plate that looked like vomit!! Geez spare me!!," someone wrote on Facebook. "Plus Poh & Sofia were really deliberately quite negative towards Gill, as we've seen so many times before, to throw her off her game. Not impressed at all."

"Josh Perry has been so lucky in his cooks. He should have been eliminated. It's only a matter of time. He's not a great cook. I really felt for Gillian. She was lovely," someone replied.

On X, viewers were just as perturbed, with many of them saying that the result was, quite simply, BS.

"Wow, can't believe he's still there after serving that up...what a joke", one unimpressed viewer wrote.

"WTF???? With Pezza making it through, they’ll have to change the name to So-soChef AU for next season," wrote another.

"You're having serious credibility issues, @masterchefau. They're pretty noticeable at the pointy end. It's been a trend the last couple of seasons, and this is just nonsense," added a third person.

One viewer came to the table with a solution to the issue suggesting that, "They need to do blind taste tests to stop their biased judging" while another quipped that Pezza had "Bradbury'd this again."

Another person lamented the fact that Pezza remaining in the competition could only mean one thing.

"Oh good. Pezza's safe. More jokes from the 50s coming up," they wrote.

Meanwhile, there were some viewers who didn't seem to think that Pezza's escape from elimination was all that insidious, given that Gillian had failed to make her dish as tasty as his.

On Reddit, one fan wrote, "I’ve given Pezza a lot of heat these last few episodes, but at least he took a risk tonight. So good on him for that."

"I've got no problem with this one," said another. "Overbaked creme caramel isn't really very pleasant to eat and has a similar texture to powdered eggs. Yea sure Pezza gets extra leeway and yes his feedback is a bit eyebrow-raising at times but when Andy said Gill's dessert was grainy I was thinking it would take a disaster to lose to it and Pezza's dish, while plated like a five-year-old in art class, was seemingly not a disaster."

"Look, the judges made the right call, if Gill’s was overcooked vs Pezza’s flaw being ugly plating. But bloody hell, they need to be driving the plating criticism at him every judging. It’s noticeably below the standards of everyone else," added a third.

"Nah rigged how the fk is he scraping through every time," another person asked.

"Every season seems to have that one contestant that goes far somehow despite putting out bang average dishes and it feels like Pez is that person for this season," they wrote.
