As previously reported, the series will tell the story the alternative history of the space race like “For All Mankind,” but this time from the Soviet Union perspective.
The official description for the show describes it as “a propulsive, paranoid thriller that takes us back to the key moment in the alt-history retelling of the space race – when the Soviet Union became the first nation to put a man on the moon. But this time, we explore the story from behind the Iron Curtain, showing the lives of the cosmonauts, the engineers, and the intelligence officers embedded among them in the Soviet space program, and the risks they all took to propel humanity forward.”
Martin will play Lyudmilla, described as “the head of the KGB surveillance department at Star City.”
Martin is a two-time BAFTA TV Award winner — first for “Bleak House” in 2006 and then for “Poppy Shakespeare” in 2009, both in the best actress category. She has since been nominated for the shows “South Riding” and “Motherland.” She is also known for roles in shows like “North and South,” “Ludwig,” “White Girl,” and “Until I Kill You.” She has starred in films such as “Philomena” and “Becoming Jane.”
She is repped by United Agents and Felker Toczek.
“Star City” hails from “For All Mankind” creators Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert, and Ben Nedivi. Wolpert and Nedivi serve as showrunners and executive producers. Moore executive produces under his Tall Ship Productions banner along with Maril Davis. Steve Oster and Andrew Chambliss are also executive producers. Sony Pictures Television is the studio.
