MAFS' Adrian responds to major wedding rumour: 'Didn't unfold like that'
EXCLUSIVE: Adrian Araouzou has addressed speculation that he and Awhina Rutene almost had a double wedding.
Married At First Sight fans were seeing double in Wednesday night’s episode when Awhina Rutene tied the knot with Adrian Araouzou while their identical twin siblings sat in the front row. The reality show has featured a handful of twins in the past, including a double wedding in 2017, but this season marks the first time both the bride and groom have had a twin.
While Awhina and Adrian each chose to involve their sibling in the wedding party, a source tells Yahoo Lifestyle that they almost had a much bigger role on the show. According to a production insider, there were early discussions of both sets of twins getting married during the same ceremony.

“Bosses really loved the idea of having two sets of twins join the experiment and even having them choose which twin they marry while down the aisle, but sadly it just didn’t work out,” the source shares.
Adrian responds to double wedding rumour
Speaking with Yahoo Lifestyle about the rumours, Adrian reveals his brother James didn’t apply for the show and “was never a part of the pre-show auditions”. However, he admits they definitely would’ve been interested in a double wedding if they were both single.
“My brother had a girlfriend at the time but listen, if he was single and they found out I had a twin in my audition and they knew Awhina had a twin as well, it would’ve been great TV,” he remarks.“Like, twins getting married? It would’ve been an interesting topic and interesting to watch.
“So it didn't unfold like that but I'm sure if [the producers] were given that opportunity, that's something MAFS would’ve entertained. My brother’s a bit of a character as well, and so is [Awhina’s sister] Cleo.”

Would Adrian's brother go on MAFS 2026?
He might not have appeared as a groom on this year’s season of MAFS, but Adrian teases that his brother James might return to the show in the future.
“He’s single now, so never say never!” he says. “There’s definitely a possibility, we’ll see how that plays out. Ask and you shall receive!”
