Kmart wall art hack wows shoppers: 'Genius'

People just can't get enough of this crafty Kmart art hack.

Everyone loves having art around their home, but it sure can be expensive decorating an entire house in an artistic style. Well, one Kmart shopper might have found the solution, coming up with a crafty and cost-effective way of hacking up beautiful wall art.

"Saw something similar using Kmart tea towels," she shared to a Facebook group for Kmart fans. "So I adapted it to a bigger size using the Kmart A1 oak poster frames and some on-special material from Spotlight."

Her fellow decorators were stoked with the results of the hack too. "Smart thinking," one person wrote. "Great idea!"

"They look fabulous!" commented another.

Do it yourself

Asked how she did it, the woman explained that she simply attached the fabric to the photo frame backing board and it worked a treat. "I attached the fabric to the paper that comes in the frame with tape," she explained. "Then placed the backing board back into the frame as you would with a photo!"

"Not sure how long it will hold up for, but I did purchase fabric glue that I didn't end up using, so that would probably work too," the woman added, before going on to say that the hack worked out so well that she's now looking at making one for "each room of the house".

Meanwhile, others who'd already tried the hack themselves said they had been using it "for years" to fill their homes with inexpensive artwork. “I used to cover canvases with material prints!" One said. "It's great décor, and easy to interchange with seasons and colours."

“These look good!" another said. "I've been doing this for years, much cheaper option and can change it around whenever you want."

“It's such a great option!" echoed someone else. "I did this with some beautiful material made by an indigenous woman. I used adhesive spray to make sure it didn’t sag or crease. It’s a talking point and love sharing the stories they represent," she shared.

You can use tea towels too

However, while the woman used large frames for her artwork hack others have done it before on a smaller scale using Kmart tea towels.

"Pretty happy with the finished product," one crafty hacker shared. "$3 tea towel + $15 frame = very cheap art."

"Frame from Kmart and Aussie animal wombat tea towel from Myer," someone commented. "Seriously looks like a beautiful piece of art, not a tea towel. My husband loved the wombats so much he drove out to create cockatoo and kookaburra to hang on our kitchen wall. Kmart hack at its finest."
