Kmart shoppers go wild for game-changing $10 kitchen gadget: 'Best purchase ever'
A MasterChef fan favourite has praised the product for being ‘so easy’ to use.
If you’re anything like me and often try to recreate dishes from your favourite restaurants at home to try and save money, then you’d know that the results are sadly not always great. Take sushi for example: no matter how delicious your fillings are or how perfectly you cook the rice, the difficulty of rolling the sheets and the subsequent mess is enough to make you want to order takeout.
While the hassle may put you off cooking the popular Japanese dish altogether, Kmart shoppers have discovered a $10 item from the retailer that has revolutionised the process. Kmart’s Sushi Making Kit comes with a bamboo mat and a sushi maker which guarantees perfectly formed sushi rolls every time.
All you have to do is fill a tube with rice and your favourite ingredients, plunge it through the tube onto a nori sheet and then roll it using the bamboo mat.

One shopper took to social media this week to say that they purchased the $10 Sushi Making Kit and $15 Mini Rice Cooker from Kmart to satiate their child’s sushi craving and had great success.
“I've never made sushi in my life but when your son suddenly decides he wants it for his school lunches, you head straight to Kmart,” they wrote. “The mini rice cooker is super easy to use and makes the perfect amount of rice, and at only $25 for it and the sushi kit I won't mind the cost so much when he moves on to the next choice of cuisine.”

Others took to the comments to praise the kitchen gadget, with one person writing: “That sushi maker is so easy to use. I love it.”
“I found this way to be super easy and satisfying,” another added, while a third said, “I made some last year to put on our Christmas platter. They turn out well”.
The product also has a 4.8-star rating on Kmart’s website and has been described as “seriously amazing”, “incredibly easy to use” and “great value for money”.
“I've always struggled with making the rolls for my sushi and this has made it so easy,” one shopper commented, followed by someone else who said, “Never made sushi before but after a couple tries they came out like I was a professional”.
“Best purchase ever. So easy and stress-free. So much fun making sushi now and perfect rolls every time,” another replied.

Meanwhile, the product has racked up hundreds of thousands of views on TikTok with creators sharing videos showcasing how easy it is to make sushi at home.
“I bought the viral sushi making kit from Kmart and I honestly think it’s the best $10 that I have ever spent in a Kmart store,” Celia Gercovich (@celia.gercovich) said in her video.
“I found a $10 sushi maker from Kmart, so don’t walk, run,” Bec Hardgrave (@bec.hardgrave) added in her clip.
Malissa Fedele (@malissa_fedele), who was a fan favourite contestant on last year's season of MasterChef, also shared a video making tuna, avocado and cucumber sushi with the Kmart product and admitted it was “so easy”.
“I got this viral sushi making tool from Kmart,” she said. “I’ve watched a few videos, it looks really easy to use. You just pop the rice in, pop your fillings in, and then you’re gonna roll it up using [the bamboo mat].”

If you do end up buying Kmart’s Sushi Making Kit (which I definitely plan on), many shoppers point out that it’s essential to let your sushi roll sit for 10 minutes before cutting it into slices.
This way the individual rolls won’t fall apart and you’ll end up with the restaurant-quality sushi you’ve always dreamed of!
