14 Big Yikes, Awkward Moments From Trump's Second Inauguration
Donald Trump is now the 47th president of the United States, and his inauguration ceremony was quite the spectacle.
In case you missed it, here are 14 awkward moments from the event:
1.Former first lady Michelle Obama was noticeably absent.
"A source familiar with her thinking" told People, "There's no overstating her feelings about [Trump]. She's not one to plaster on a pleasant face and pretend for protocol's sake."
2.Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was also absent.
3.The apparent stress on former first lady Dr. Jill Biden's face during her entrance.
4.NBC announced in the middle of their live inauguration broadcast that former president Biden pardoned members of his family before the ceremony.
None of his family members pardoned today have been charged with a crime, but "the move was designed to guard against possible retribution by Trump," the AP said.
5.Melania Trump's large hat.
6.Cardinal Timothy Dolan invoked Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. when his daughter, Dr. Bernice King, has said time and again that her father's values don't align with Trump's.
7.The look on Donald Trump's face when JD Vance was sworn in as vice president.
8.Trump called his inauguration day "LIBERATION DAY."
9.Almost everyone often stood and applauded throughout his speech — except for Democrats.
10.Trump said he'll bring back free speech despite being an initiator of the TikTok ban.
11.Trump seemingly took credit for hostages being freed amid the Israel-Hamas ceasefire, even though former president Joe Biden said the deal was reached under “the precise contours” of his plans, AP News reports.
"I'm pleased to say that as of yesterday, one day before I assumed office, the hostages in the Middle East are coming back home to their families," Trump said during his inaugural speech.
12.Then, former vice president Kamala Harris seemed to stand up and clap for former president Joe Biden over the freed hostages instead of President Trump.
13.Following what seemed to be technical difficulties with the music, Carrie Underwood waited in silence for almost two minutes before having to sing "America the Beautiful" a cappella.
14.And finally, former first lady Hillary Clinton stopped her husband, former president Bill Clinton, in his tracks with a stiff mom arm to allow other attendees to leave the ceremony first.
I'm sure I missed some. Let me know what awkward moments you caught in the comments.
