Kmart has become the go-to destination for anyone looking to add a little pizzazz to their homes without breaking the bank. With a plethora of home decor products that rival pricier brands, the retailer also offers endless DIY opportunities. One woman has recently wowed fellow Kmart lovers by using self-adhesive vinyl floor tiles to transform her hallway from drab to fab.

Sharing her impressive before-and-after photos in a Facebook group dedicated to Kmart Home Decor and Hacks, the woman explained that her house, built in the 1950s, was in need of a modern touch. Her makeover left fellow Kmart shoppers in awe, with one admirer immediately exclaiming that it looks like "a brand new house!"

Using just nine packets of Kmart vinyl floor tiles for $12 each, she simply stuck them over the existing tiles after a thorough steam clean, with the entire makeover costing only $108.

"Wow, so cheap and such a big difference," one group member commented. "Really brightens the area and makes it more inviting. Looks gorgeous."

Addressing questions from curious group members, she clarified that she didn't need extra glue, nor did she have to remove any skirting boards.

"Feels good on your feet," she assured, adding, "No complaints!"

The transformation received high praise from the community: "Freshens the look up so much," noted one person, while another called it an "incredible transformation."

Yet another group member simply said, "Wow. Just wow."

The post sparked a wave of enthusiasm among other DIYers, who shared their own experiences using the same tiles. Projects ranged from pantry doors and outdoor tabletops to bathroom floors, with many echoing positive feedback about the tiles' look and durability.

Of course, no online discussion is complete without a few sceptics. One user predicted, "These will lift and move within the first 12 months," and added, "They don't handle heavy traffic and they don't handle wet mopping well."

Another agreed, pointing out the need for a "super flat" surface, as hers began lifting after a year. A seasoned renovator chimed in, suggesting that sealing the tiles might help, depending on the surface they're applied to.

Despite some reservations, the original poster's success story inspired many, with another woman in the discussion stating her tiles had lasted well without coming unstuck for "12 months so far."

According to the retailer's official website, these tiles are resistant to water, oil, normal kitchen temperatures, and mildew. As long as the dust is wiped off during installation, Kmart claims the tiles can be used in your kitchen, living room, and bedroom. They require no grouting or cementing and are reportedly easy to clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent.

So whether you're planning a small update or a major renovation, Kmart's home decor department might just be worth a look.
