Kmart shoppers divided over $39 Bluey advent calendar: 'Waste of money'
A key detail in the popular Christmas item has sparked a debate online.
If you’re a Christmas lover like me then you’d know that advent calendars are an essential part of the festive season. Whether it’s filled with beauty products, Lego or chocolate, there’s nothing better than opening a little gift each day in the lead-up to December 25 to help you survive the holiday period.
While Christmas is still three months away, Kmart Australia recently announced its 2024 Christmas collection including a $39 Bluey advent calendar. The festive calendar, which is also available at Target, has 24 Bluey-themed surprises based around the season two episode ‘Christmas Swim’.
Hidden behind 24 different windows are three figures, 18 accessories and three stickers. While the animated series is appropriate for all ages, the advent calendar is suitable for ages three and up as it contains small parts.

The product has already received rave reviews on social media since it landed in stores this month, with popular TikTok content creator and Bluey super fan Becca Anne (@_becca.anne) sharing an unboxing video on Tuesday.
“So Target just released the new Bluey advent calendar and being a Bluey-obsessed neurodivergent, you know I had to get it,” she said.
Shoppers divided by key detail
One shopper kicked off an interesting discussion about the Bluey advent calendar in a popular Facebook group last week when she shared a photo alongside the caption: “I have a feeling this will be popular.”
Social media users quickly took to the comments to say they couldn’t wait to buy it, with one person writing: “Omg I am so getting one next week.”
“I got mine already!” another added, while a third said, “I actually brought this today. I didn’t want to miss out again this year on a good advent calendar”.
“I grabbed it as soon as it came out,” someone else shared. “It has great little pieces for pretend play/small world play. It was very popular with my daycare children last year and it's hard to find bits and pieces.”
'Waste of money'
Meanwhile, plenty of people argued that it was very similar to last year’s Bluey advent calendar and it was a “waste of money”.
“It’s crap. Don’t waste your money. I had last year’s for my little one and it certainly isn’t worth the money,” one shopper remarked.
“$39 for what you get… yeah nah,” a different user said, followed by another who replied, “I think there should have been more for $39”.

“I rushed to pre-order the one they sold last year and it really wasn't worth the price. In hindsight I wish I'd waited because it ended up going on clearance right before Christmas,” someone else commented.
Kmart has also released advent calendars themed around Hot Wheels, Minecraft, Barbie, LEGO, Pokemon, books, makeup, jewellery and more, all ranging from $14 to $49.
