Rachel Gunn may not have impressed with her breaking at the Paris Olympics 2024 but her supporters gave a prediction.

Unless you truly have been living under a rock or on another planet then you'll know that Breaking (aka break dancing) was added to the Olympic roster this year. You'll also know that thanks to her memorable performance, an Aussie named Rachael Gunn (or Raygun) is now the talk of the globe.

The 36-year-old Phd qualified university lecturer represented Oz in the first, and last, breaking event at the Paris Olympics and quickly became the subject of endless memes and ridicule. This was due to her routine, which included some kangaroo hops and other moves that people felt were not worthy of the style of dance that last year celebrated 50 years since it was born out of pain and protest in the South Bronx, New York.

Politics and cultural appropriation aside, the world was quick to make fun of the Aussie b-girl who at least got out there and gave it a red hot crack, but failed to score any points in her three battles. The backlash has been so intense that the international breaking federation has now reached out to offer mental health support to Raygun.

Despite all of the couch critics - who likely couldn't do a headstand, backspin or 6-step if their lives depended on it - there has also been a raft of support for Raygun with fellow breakdancers defending her originality and other Aussie Olympians treating her like royalty in the wake of her performance.

And then there are the scores of people who are now placing bets that we will indeed be seeing Raygun again - perhaps not on an Olympic stage but on a more local one.

"Give Raygun the Dancing With the Stars nod. It’s what she and us deserve. @officialdwts," someone wrote on X.

"It’s 2025. You turn on Free to air Australian TV. Raygun is everywhere," another wrote. "She’s on dancing with the stars. You turn to Ch.9 She’s on MAFS You flick to Ch.10 She’s on Hunted using her dance skills to evade capture."

"#Raygun on Dancing With the Stars and The Block by Christmas," another fan wrote.

"Raygun will perform on Dancing with the Stars Australia, go on I’m A Celebrity, and ultimately appear in a pre-taped bit for the Closing Ceremony of Brisbane 2032. An icon. Nikki Webster for a new generation," said yet another.

"Nothing is certain in life except death, taxes, and Raygun will get cast on Dancing With the Stars," another Raygun stan said.

"The real question is whether #Raygun ends up on I’m a Celebrity or Dancing with the Stars," another said to which I will invoke the Old El Paso girl and say 'Por qué no los dos?'

And so the chorus of predictions continued with comments such as "Raygun will be on Dancing with the Stars or I'm a Celebrity in 2025!! For sure!", "#Raygun sure bet for Dancing With The Stars. #Paris2024" and "I think Raygun would be good on Dancing With the Stars as she is actually a dancer I read in an interview before she branched out into breaking. I like her chances of doing well on that."

SHOP:

You know what? I'd vote for her to win both because she seems like my kinda gal - a hip-hop fan who's not afraid to give something a go and who can have a laugh at herself in the face of adversity. While breaking may not belong in the Olympics, Raygun certainly belongs to us and we should be proud to call her a fellow Aussie.
