So! As you probably expected, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky were no-shows at the 2025 Grammy Awards, and there are likely three main reasons for this, the first being that Rihanna notoriously hasn’t released new music in Y-E-A-R-S. (Oh, and even though “Lift Me Up” was nominated at the 2024 Grammys for Best Song Written for Visual Media, she still didn’t make an appearance.)

Second, A$AP also has not released a new album in several years—though his fourth studio album, Don’t Be Dumb, is set to drop in early 2025 after several delays.

The third reason why Rihanna and A$AP probs skipped tonight: A$AP (whose real name is Rakim Mayers, btw) is currently on trial after being accused of firing a gun at a former collaborator. In case you need to be brought up to speed: Following an April 2022 vacation to Barbados, A$AP and Rihanna were met by 10 officers at LAX, who apprehended the rapper in connection to a November 2021 shooting. Upon his arrest, the LAPD accused Rocky of firing a handgun at A$AP Relli (real name Terell Ephron), who had “sustained a minor injury” and sought medical treatment.

In November 2023, a judge determined that there was enough evidence for Rocky to stand trial, and his trial was initially set for October 2024 before being pushed to January 2025. Since Rocky turned down a plea deal (which would have required him to plead guilty to one of two felony assault charges in exchange for 180 days in jail), he now faces up to 24 years in prison if he is convicted.

The TL;DR: Fans did not expect Rihanna and Rocky to show up at tonight ceremony.
