Farmer Wants A Wife 2025: Big Brother star reveals hopes for same-sex season
An insider previously revealed to Yahoo Lifestyle that there was a 'lack of suitable applicants' for a more diverse season.
While the farmers for the 2025 season of Farmer Wants A Wife have already been revealed, one former reality TV star has called for a more diverse season, not long after an insider told Yahoo Lifestyle that the show had to scrap plans for having a same-sex couple due to "lack of interest" during the application process.
Big Brother's David Graham, who first appeared on the reality series in 2006 and again in 2022 for the all-stars season, has said he'd be open to finding love on a show like Farmer Wants A Wife.
Dave initially came out on Big Brother 2006 and in a recent interview with Chattr he confirmed he was single again and would be open to finding love on Farmer Wants A Wife.
“It is hard [for farmers to meet people],” Dave said. "It’s even harder for people like me in my boat [gay farmers], because there are fewer of us, but we’re there. We definitely exist. We’ve always existed.”
Dave said the beauty of Farmer Wants A Wife is the fact it's so real, saying it'd be a "normal" part of the show's progression.

“It would be a great opportunity. We now have equal rights to marry us, it would just be a natural, normal part of the show’s flight," he said. “Australia’s come a long way since 2006 when I was part of a real change in looking at ourselves and understanding who we are, and that’s the beauty of reality TV."

A production insider revealed to Yahoo Lifestyle that Seven had been open to a more inclusive season of the fan-favourite show and that the 2025 cast being made up of straight, white men was "not an intentional move from the producers or casting team".
"There were some pretty strong discussions that Farmer Wants a Wife was going to have a diversity angle for the next season of the popular dating show but those plans have been dropped due to a lack of suitable applicants from both same-sex attracted farmers and potential love interests," the insider said.
"We know that there are strong communities in regional areas, and we would love to have them take part in the long-running show. It is not for lack of trying. The audition process is quite extensive, and while there were a handful of options, in the end, the farmers picked were more suitable based on their personalities this time around.
"We wouldn't want it to feel like stunt casting. That is also not going to work just for the sake of making it work."
