Sunrise’s Edwina Bartholomew has shared an emotional tribute to her Channel Seven colleague who passed away earlier this year. The TV presenter, who is currently filling in for Natalie Barr as host of the breakfast show over the summer break, honoured several celebrities who died in 2024 during Monday morning’s broadcast.

The tribute paid homage to international icons like James Earl Jones, Donald Sutherland, Maggie Smith, Shannen Doherty, Quincy Jones, Kris Kristofferson and Liam Payne, as well as homegrown stars Maggie Tabberer, Jack Karlson, John Blackman, Clive Robertson, George Negus and Sunrise reporter Nathan Templeton.

Nathan tragically died in April at the age of 44 after suffering a medical episode while walking his dog and was found dead near Barwon River in the Geelong suburb of Newtown.

“Nathan Templeton spent the last 12 years with us at Channel Seven, bringing humour and heart to every single story he covered,” Edwina said in a voiceover alongside footage of Nathan on Sunrise.

“Tempo, we miss you every day.”

Nathan joined Channel Seven in 2012 as a sports reporter for Seven News Melbourne before becoming Sunrise’s Melbourne correspondent in 2016. He was best known for being Channel Seven’s poolside interviewer at the 2016 Olympic Games, 2018 Commonwealth Games and 2020 Olympic Games.

Before this, he worked at Network 10 and presented reports for 10 News First in Melbourne, and was also a ground announcer for the Geelong Football Club's home games.

The father-of-two stepped down as Sunrise’s Melbourne correspondent in 2022 and continued to work in a behind-the-scenes role with the network until his death. He is survived by two young sons and his wife, Kate.

Managing Director of Seven Melbourne, Lewis Martin, sent an email to the network’s staff to share the sad news in April.

“The tragic news of Nathan’s passing has left us all at Seven profoundly saddened,” he wrote. “Nathan was a respected journalist whose passion for storytelling was evident in all his years reporting for Sunrise, 7NEWS and multiple Olympic Games.

“He was based out of Seven’s Melbourne headquarters but was well known and much-loved right across the network, and through his work on Sunrise and major sporting events, right around Australia. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, loved ones and especially his two young sons, during this difficult time.”
