Sunrise reporter Nathan Templeton tragically dies aged 44

The presenter was walking his dog and is believed to have suffered a medical episode.

Sunrise reporter Nathan Templeton has tragically died while walking his dog. The 44-year-old father-of-two was found near Barwon River after suffering a medical episode, The Herald Sun reports.

Nathan was found dead on a walking track near a mountain bike reserve, according to The Geelong Advertiser. Police were called to the scene at 2:30pm on Tuesday.

A Victoria police spokesperson told Yahoo Lifestyle, "Police will prepare a report for the Coroner following the death of a 44-year-old Newtown man on Tuesday 9 April.

"Emergency services were called to a park in Newtown about 2.30pm where the man was located deceased.

The Herald Sun reports that the Seven news presenter had recently retreated from the limelight while he dealt with personal issues.

Nathan was a Melbourne correspondent for Sunrise and made a name for himself while reporting on the Olympic Games. Prior to this, he worked at Network 10 and covered sporting events such as the Australian Open. He was also a ground announcer for the Geelong Football Club's home games.

He is survived by two young sons and his wife, Kate.

'Profoundly saddened'

Managing Director of Seven Melbourne, Lewis Martin, sent an email to staff on Wednesday to share the sad news.

"The tragic news of Nathan’s passing has left us all at Seven profoundly saddened," he wrote. "Nathan was a respected journalist whose passion for storytelling was evident in all his years reporting for Sunrise, 7NEWS and multiple Olympic Games.

"He was based out of Seven’s Melbourne headquarters but was well known and much-loved right across the network, and through his work on Sunrise and major sporting events, right around Australia.

"Our deepest condolences go out to his family, loved ones and especially his two young sons, during this difficult time."

The Sunrise Instagram account also shared its own tribute, which read: "Love you, Tempo ❤️. The tragic news of Nathan’s passing has left us all at Sunrise and Seven profoundly saddened. Nathan was a respected journalist whose passion for storytelling was evident in all his years reporting for Sunrise and several Olympic Games.

Tributes flow for Nathan

Nathan's friends have taken to social media to share tributes for the late presenter.

Former presenter, Basil Zempilas, shared a photo of him and Nathan, with the caption reading: "This is how I'll remember Nathan. Always happy, so reliable, incredibly hard-working and just so good to have on the team. He was team first. Always.

"That smile made everyone smile, his colleagues, his friends, the athletes, the audience.

We'll miss you little mate, my deepest condolences to Kate and the boys - your dad was a champion, we'll never forget him."

Stephen Quartermain added, "Hard to comprehend Nathan Templeton is gone. So young, vibrant, talented and cheeky. That’s how I’ll remember him. Vale and rest in peace."

"Saddened to hear the sudden passing of Nathan Templeton," Jude Bolton wrote. "Thoughts go out to all family, to the Seven crew and his close friends."
