Less than two months after he officially stepped away from Weekend Sunrise, Matt Doran’s next move has been revealed. The TV journalist is set to relocate to the United States with his wife Kendall Bora, who is leaving her role as executive producer of Today on Channel Nine to become the network’s US bureau chief.

Kendall told staff on Tuesday that she and Matt were moving to Los Angeles for her new role, according to Daily Mail. Fiona Dear, Nine's director of news and current affairs, also confirmed the news and told the publication that she’s looking forward to seeing Kendall take on the position.

“Kendall has had a stellar run at Today Show as EP and has spearheaded a number of transformative projects, including the streamlining of the entire Today Show team,” she said. “I'm excited about what she can achieve as head of Nine's famed US bureau.”

It’s unknown exactly what Matt will be doing in LA, however, it's believed he is hoping to make documentaries.

He said during his farewell announcement in November that he began working at Seven in 2017 with a background in crime and documentaries, and he is “being pulled back in that direction again now”.

Matt joined Channel Seven in 2017 as a crime reporter and worked on the current affairs show Sunday Night before taking up his role on Weekend Sunrise in 2019.

While James Tobin, Sam Mac and Larry Emdur were reportedly in the running to take over Matt’s role, the network enlisted David Woiwod to join longtime co-host Monique Wright on Weekend Sunrise.

David previously worked as Sunrise’s resident Melbourne reporter for four years before relocating to Los Angeles and working as 7NEWS' US Bureau Chief for five years. He moved back to Australia late last year and began his new role on December 16, where he was quickly embraced by viewers.
