Drew Barrymore Finally Addresses Awkward Interaction With Martha Stewart

Drew Barrymore is opening up about her notoriously awkward interaction with Martha Stewart, and it seems there's no ill will between the two stars.

On the Wednesday, Feb. 5 episode of Watch What Happens Live, Barrymore talked about her tendency to get up close and personal—or "pupil to pupil"—with the guests on her eponymous talk show.

"And the reason for being pupil to pupil is?" host Andy Cohen asked.

"I don't know! I can't actually control it," Barrymore admitted, adding, "Because I got focus grouped when we launched, and it was not good. It was awful."

Cohen recalled the moment when Stewart seemingly pushed Barrymore away during her appearance on the show, asking, "And was Martha Stewart, like...?"

That's when Cohen made a faux-horrified face and pretended he was putting one hand up to keep Barrymore away.

"I think she was just teasing?" the actress suggested.

"I do too," Cohen agreed.

"Martha, actually—I've never been able to say this before with confidence—now I think Martha really does like me," Barrymore continued, with Cohen concurring.

"And I think the internet just misunderstood the moment and ran with it," the Wedding Singer star said, adding, "When I first was getting to know her, I was like, I don't think she likes me, but I think I broke through and I'm finally like...she doesn't dislike me."

While discussing Stewart's preference in romantic partners, the lifestyle icon said that she likes "soft and gooey" shows of affection.

“When you’re treated like a lady,” Barrymore said, stroking Stewart’s arm.

In response, Stewart playfully swatted her hand away.

“You’re the wrong gender," she quipped.
