Dessert Masters fans aren't happy with subtle change to the show: 'What's the point?'

Viewers have been left divided over a change in season two.

Dessert Masters returned for its second season last week with a brand new group of pastry chefs competing for the coveted culinary crown. While Melissa Leong and Amaury Guichon have returned as judges for the popular reality show, fans have been left divided over one very subtle change to the new season.

Taking to social media following Monday night’s episode, a handful of viewers questioned why the series has begun including cryptic previews of the contestants’ dishes before they’ve been presented to the judges.

Similar to how The Block shows animations of what the rooms will look like throughout the week before they’re officially revealed, Dessert Masters now features blurry close-up teasers of the finished dishes as the contestants speak to the judges about their ideas.

“What’s the point of showing a blurred preview of the dish? It both spoils and provides no context to the dish,” one person complained.

“Whyyyyyy do they show previews of the finished product,” another commented, followed by a third who said, “I knooooow! I like the Bake Off's illustrations better”.

Others argued that the previews are simply “confusing” and “unnecessary”, but appreciate that the show is trying something new.

This year’s season of Dessert Masters is only two episodes in, however, fans have already flooded social media with praise for the “strong batch of contestants”. Emelia Jackson spoke with Yahoo Lifestyle before the premiere and teased that the standard of desserts in season two is “elite”.

“I think people looked at me and were like, ‘This girl knows what she's doing’ because I had competed in that kitchen before,” she detailed. “But for me personally, I was looking at all the competition going, there's no way I can take on any of these people. Walking in with Darren Purchese I was like, ‘This is ridiculous’.

“I actually can't wait to watch it because when you're cooking, you're so focused on what you're doing and battling the clock and trying to do really well personally. So I really didn't get to see anyone's desserts other than a fleeting moment of them being walked past to be presented to the judges. So I'm really excited to watch it as well.”

While the former MasterChef champion turned down a spot in the competition last year because filming kicked off on the same day she was due to give birth to her second child, she told Yahoo Lifestyle that she instantly said yes when she got the call from producers this time around.

“I knew they were going to call me back, I just didn't know when,” she shared. “And then also, I didn't know if I was ready to actually launch myself into that chaos again. So I was like, if I don't get the phone call, is that a bad thing? If I do get the phone call, I'm obviously going to say yes. So I was unsure about the whole thing and very nervous about it.”
