Bluey fan ridiculed over outrage at 'swear word': 'Move on, mate'

The American viewer attracted over 6000 comments on a post that was largely deemed 'ridiculous.'

Bluey wrapped up its third season on Sunday, April 14 with a 28-minute long episode titled 'The Sign'. Following its release fans took to social media to share how emotional it had made them as they witnessed the Heeler family make some major decisions - including whether or not to sell their home and move somewhere else for Bandit's job.

Other adult fans found themselves experiencing mixed emotions about a scene that seemingly revealed that Chilli's sister, Brandy, was finally pregnant after it was suggested she was struggling with fertility issues (as referenced in the episode 'Onesies').

And then there was one fan from America who took issue with a particular word on the Bluey website, taking to a fan forum to ask why the character bio for real estate agent Bucky Dunstan (voiced by Rove McManus) contained an offensive word.

"Why did the Bluey website say the h word?" the person asked - referring to a line that describes Bucky as "slick and hell-bent on a sale."

The character features in the 'The Sign' as he "puts all his energy into being the best Brisbane realtor he can be."

The original poster's question attracted over 2000 comments in reply, with very few people (if any) finding a problem with the wording.

"Because it’s Australia, a country that understands that hell-bent means totally determined and does not mean devil worship, a country that isn’t too scared to allow their citizens the ability to think for themselves," one person retorted, unintentionally sparking a political debate about freedom of speech in the process.

'Out of context'

Among the (non-political replies) was someone writing, "I use this all of the time and I live in the US. I always thought that it was used in the very context you stated. People take so many things out of context these days. It's ridiculous!"

Elsewhere, another person suggested that it was probably fine to use the word 'hell' as it was likely only adults looking on the website to begin with. "Because the people old enough to sit still and read that whole thing will probably be okay reading it," they debated.

Another member of the forum pointed out that the word is used in far more conservative places saying, "I mean they say hell in church… so."

'Welcome to Australia'

"Because we're Aussies," another mocked. "Move on mate."

Others expressed amazement that some people consider 'hell' to even be a swear word, while someone else made the very good point that "You're talking about Australia, where our national tourism ad campaign used to be 'so where the bloody hell are you?'" Another noted that the slogan for the Northern Territory is 'CU in the NT' adding a cheerful "welcome to Australia" to their retort.

One person went so far as to try to explain the discourse to everyone saying, "As an American that has spent a lot of time in Australia, it’s just a word. It’s not that serious. It’s people that give power to the words. It was a bit of a culture shock to me at first. But some words Americans consider 'bad' just aren’t there."

'It's a good letter'

And then, there were the downright hilarious and cheeky responses that had fellow commenters raining laughing face emojis down on them such as "Which "H" word? Hatchback or House peddler?" - referring to elsewhere in the bio where Bucky is described as 'loving four-door hatchbacks (with his face plastered on the side)' and being a 'a very convincing house peddler.'

In a different comment that people said had 'won the internet', someone retorted, "Because all words start with different letters. What do you have against "H"? It's a good letter. It helps support "P" and "G" to sound like an "F". And all kinds of cool things. Don't hate on "H". It's an important letter in the alphabet (as they all are)."

That comment alone received more than 900 reactions of agreement.

However, my personal favourite was one viewer who simply said, "Until Bandit drops an F bomb I'm not interested. Lol"

Hell yeah to that.
