Big W shoppers scrambling to snag $10 dupe of $1150 designer shoe: ‘Great find!’
It's been dubbed the must have shoe of the season and now you can get it without the hefty price tag.
If you love designer shoes but are not keen on expensive price tags, this dupe is for you. The latest fashion find taking social media by storm has been spotted at Big W, and it’s being called the must-have shoe of spring.
Big W’s Mesh Ballet Flat is a direct budget dupe of a high-end fashion label, and for just $10, shoppers are scrambling to get their hands on them. That's a saving of well over $1000 - so you can see why they've got everyone talking (and running to Big W!).
Brisbane fashion stylist Sarah Strozkiy recently shared the new season style on Instagram with her 90,000 followers, calling the highly sought-after shoe an “incredible” dupe.
“These are the dupes of a high-end fashion brand you see everywhere in Vogue - they are over $1000,” she tells her followers.
“I have found some amazing BIG W fashion dupes that will seriously elevate your wardrobe, style and vibe. I mean… $1,000 shoes! No, thank you!”

The $1150 version is from the high-end label Aliah, “inspired by classical Japanese shoes,” according to the store’s website, and comes in various colours.
Other designer labels have also launched their own version of the Mary Jane style shoe, including AJE for $155 and Tony Bianco for $179.95.
Why are they so popular?
It's no surprise that the shoe is popping up in various stores, with high-profile celebs like Jennifer Lawrence, Kourtney Kardashian, Dua Lipa and Sophia Richie making it their shoe of choice during the summer months across the US. As spring/summer styles start to hit Aussie shelves, you can certainly expect to see more of this see-through, simple look.
Showing off the mesh shoes herself, Sarah added that they were both stylish and comfortable. The find sent her followers into a frenzy, with dozens saying they couldn't wait to get their hands on them.
“I have been looking for dupes for those flats! Thank you so much,” one person wrote.
“Omg, so cute, great find,” another excited person shared, with another adding, “Off we go to Big W, I say!”
Meanwhile, on Reddit, people were also raving about the shoes making a comeback after they peaked in popularity 15 years ago. One woman, who had recently purchased a pair, took to the page to ask others what they thought.
"I personally think they're great. They're airy, so your feet won't be all sweaty in regular ballet flats, you can show off your pedicure, and your feet are still completely inside of a shoe," one person wrote.
"Oh girl, I've been waiting for the original mesh ones to return since 2009..." added another.
But not everyone was a fan, with one saying: "Very, very no," and another stating, "They are so on trend, and I don't know why. Hard no."
Kmart launches a version too
Meanwhile, several other shoppers had spotted dupes of the must-have mesh shoe in other stores, including budget retailer Kmart.
“Oh la la! Mesh flats have arrived at Kmart. OMG, the red!” Blogger the Kmart Insider wrote on her page of 104,000 fans, calling the new trend the most “viral shoe style” of the season.

Despite the new shoes hitting shelves, the viral see-through trend has been seen on store shelves. Several shoppers said the trend's revival was something they weren't expecting.
"Oh God. The mesh shoes are coming back. I'm old enough to remember then the 1st time round," one person wrote.
