“The Bachelorette” will skip its summer 2025 season, pauses production

The Bachelorette is taking a summer vacation.

ABC's hit reality dating series will not air a new season this summer, Entertainment Weekly has learned. The show will return for another season in the future, but it's unlikely to land in 2025. Deadline was the first to report the news.

The Bachelorette premiered in 2003 and has aired 21 seasons since its debut. However, this won't be the first time the show has taken a longer gap between seasons. After three consecutive January premieres, The Bachelorette took two years off, in 2006 and 2007, before returning with season 4 in 2008. That shake-up moved the show to a May-July time slot, where it remained for 12 seasons until the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Bachelorette has not held a consistent spot on ABC's annual calendar since the COVID-induced delay. The show resumed with season 16 in October 2020, and quickly produced two more seasons that premiered in June and October 2021. The past three seasons have all premiered in the summer, but season 19 began in July 2022, while season 20 began in June 2023, and the recent season 21 moved back to July in 2024.

The Bachelor has set a precedent for putting its spinoffs on hiatus — to make space in ABC's schedule for even more Bachelor shows, in fact. Bachelor in Paradise did not return in 2024, which left room for the new series The Golden Bachelorette to premiere in September. Bachelor in Paradise will still return for season 10 in summer 2025.

In The Bachelorette's most recent season, Jenn Tran, the first Asian American star to lead any Bachelor series, chose Devin Strader from a batch of 25 contestants. Grant Ellis, who was eliminated at the end of week 6, was selected as the next lead of The Bachelor, and is currently two weeks into his run on season 29 of the flagship series.

The Bachelor airs new episodes on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
