Ariana Grande Goes Delicate in Silk Loewe Dress and Cynthia Erivo Goes Embellished in Self-Portrait Gown for AFI Awards 2025
Co-stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are holding fast to their method dressing for the awards circuit tour for the “Wicked” blockbuster. For the promotional run of the show, Grande has been wearing a palette largely comprised of pinks and various shades of off-white in line with her role as Glinda the Good Witch. Conversely, Erivo has chosen a palettes of greens, greys and black. It follows in a thread of method dressing that some like Zendaya have been doing since at least 2017, but exploded with Margot Robbie’s “Barbie” press tour in 2023.
In Beverly Hills on Thursday, both attended the AFI Awards at the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles. For the event, Erivo was styled by Jason Bolden in an embellished Self-Portait gown. The dress featured shoulder pads, cap sleeves and is made of mesh studded with crystals. The look includes a ruching detail on one side. It also notably has a cutout at the neck.

To stave off the cold, Erivo wore a spotted fur coat. She also carried a Louis Vuitton bag and wore silver, crystal-studded Christian Louboutin heels. She wore a variety of silver hoop earrings, as is her typical style.
Grande chose a custom silk dress from Loewe. The simple look is sleeveless. it also is largely shapeless, ending at her ankles. She paired it with black leather round-toe heels from Loewe. Styled by Mimi Cuttrell, she also wore small pearl earrings.
Grande and Cuttrell have returned to Loewe throughout the press run. The pop star-actress has worn Loewe designs at least five times over the past year, including to the Met Gala. Grande has also worn designs from the namesake line of Loewe creative director Jonathan Anderson.
The American Film Institute honors the finest film and television shows annually at the AFI Awards luncheon. This year, projects like “Emilia Perez,” “The Brutalist,” “Conclave,” “The Bear” and “Shogun” were all represented. The event does not present awards, but instead celebrates all who are invited.
