What Is Wrapped Around Chelsea Handler's Arm at the 2025 Critics Choice Awards?
When Chelsea Handler took the stage at the 2025 Critics Choice Awards, broadcast live from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif., viewers couldn’t help but notice what was on the host’s arm.
When the 49-year-old opened the awards show wearing her off-the-shoulder, sleeveless burgundy gown, she addressed the noticeable bandage on her left arm.
“Some of you may be wondering what's going on here. I have a PICC line in my arm, and no, I'm not on The Substance,” she said, referring to the 2024 body horror film starring Demi Moore.
She added, “Sydney Sweeney is not about to climb out of my back. The true story is, it turns out St. Denis Medical is not a real hospital. But David Alan Grier does give one hell of a pap smear. Heads up!”
According to the Mayo Clinic, a PICC line, or a peripherally inserted central catheter, is a “long, thin tube that's inserted through a vein in your arm and passed through to the larger veins near your heart.”
The Mayo Clinic describes that a PICC line is used to “deliver medications and other treatments directly to the large central veins near your heart.”
Though it is unclear why Handler had a PICC line in her arm, one of the reasons for the catheter is for receiving liquid nutrition.
In her speech, Handler continued, “In the spirit of making tonight a celebration, I want you all to know that you are in good hands because if there's one thing I can assure you of, it's that I am very professional when it comes to having a good time.”
Handler, who was Parade’s January cover star, said on a recent appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast that she had a fever—and even brought Vicodin with her to the interview.
She said she was "in agony" and that she has "a shoulder infection.”
In Parade’s exclusive cover story, Handler—who will turn 50 on Feb. 25—said that these days she is “pretty into myself right now.”
She explained, “It is true as you age, you become more confident, and I had a lot of confidence to begin with. …But as far as being sexy, you free up as a woman. There is a sexual awakening that happens, where you do not give a sh-- about how you look or how you are being seen or the cellulite you have on the backs of your legs. You don't care about any of that because you are into feeling good and having great sexual experiences.”
