Fast food fans are rejoicing as Wendy's - the U.S. chain known for its square burgers - opened on the Gold Coast. Customers lined up to be the first to eat at the cult burger joint, with several fans sharing footage from inside the flagship store.

Wendy's is the latest American chain to open in Australia, following the launch of Five Guys in 2021 and the announcement that Chuck-E-Cheese will also be making its way to our shores. Although the anticipation for the Wendy's grand opening was high, not all customers were happy with what was on offer.

"What's the point if they don't have the same food as America?" one disgruntled person asked.

"As an American living in Australia... this is just another hamburger place that won't last here lol," another said. "A lot of the popular Wendy's things aren't even on this menu."

"They have half-assed the menu for Australia," another person raged. "If they don’t have a better selection, none of the other stores will be worried about them because they won’t be competition."

Notably absent on the Aussie menu are the chicken nuggets - which come in both the crispy and spicy variety in the U.S. - leaving many customers underwhelmed.

"The chips don’t look the same! And where are the nuggets," one person enquired.

"I saw your menu and the USA menu - please tell me stuff like nuggets, spicy nuggets etc are coming or with mustard on your burgers like the U.S. - mayo sucks!" another complained.

"You guys don’t even have nuggets on your menu! What a sh*t show haha," a third added.

Other people said they were dismayed to see that there didn't appear to be any vegetarian options like the Mushroom Melt on the menu. Despite these issues, other fans of the chain raved about the burgers and expressed their excitement that the fast-food giant was finally in Australia.

Meanwhile, in addition to complaints that the menu didn't quite stack up to the American version, several people also pointed out that it was a shame another U.S. chain had launched here at all when there are so many local options that need support.

"Those burgers look like plastic," one person wrote on Facebook. "Support small business, not this rubbish."

"No, I would rather support a smaller family-run burger shop thanks," echoed another.

"Why do we have to glorify more American junk food," a third asked. "Aussie local food & small businesses are way better, these are the places that should be the go to."
