Dolly Parton Fans Nominate This Pop Star to Portray Her in a Biopic

Dolly Parton is one of a kind—but if you had to pick someone to portray her in a movie, who would you choose?

Her fans seem to have landed on a contender, and given her background as both an actress and a singer, they feel she’s qualified for the job.

It all started when the veteran country singer teamed up with pop star Sabrina Carpenter for a track on the deluxe edition of Carpenter’s latest album, Short n' Sweet.

The two announced Parton’s participation in a re-recording of Carpenter’s 2024 summer anthem “Please Please Please” with a touching video on social media of the two listening to music in a recording studio and chatting animatedly.

At one point, the two posed for photos and Parton teased that they looked like a “before and after” shot. “You’ll be this old one day,” Parton said to Carpenter, who declared “I can’t wait, I hope I look like you!”

“Sabrina could absolutely play Dolly in a biopic,” a fan commented on the Instagram video, and others joined in, writing, “YES,” and “Oh my gosh that's all I can think about now.”

Some took it one step further, stating that in addition to portraying Parton, they could see her playing another icon. “I think Sabrina would do so good as Marilyn Monroe,” one fan wrote.

Not all fans agreed, with some nominating Parton’s goddaughter, Miley Cyrus, to the position. Like Carpenter, Cyrus also starred on a Disney Channel television show, Hannah Montana, before pivoting to pop stardom.

Prior to her breakout 2024 hit “Espresso,” Carpenter, 25, released five full-length albums and two EPs. She also acted in a number of movies and television shows, from Netflix’s Tall Girl, where she played the main character’s beauty queen sister, to Disney’s Girl Meets World, appearing in over 70 episodes. She made her on-screen debut at age 11 on Law and Order: SVU.
