50% off summer item that solves Aussies' biggest problem: 'Made camping trips much better'
Bug bites are arguably the most annoying thing about the great outdoors, but there is a solution.
Christmas is done, the tent is up and the sun is out. Cue relaxation time. Well, it would be if you didn’t have that irritating mosquito bite on your arm. And one on your leg. And how did you get bitten between your toes?
Bug bites are arguably the most annoying thing about the great outdoors, with something so small capable of ruining a perfectly lovely night under the canvas. It's a problem that Aussies know all too well, with our love of being outside and in nature often causing us to end up covered in itchy red marks and calamine lotion.
One Aussie camper even demonstrated the extent of the problem with an itch-inducing TikTok video showing a huge swarm of different bugs outside his caravan door, preventing him from getting inside for the night! The stuff nightmares are made of, right?

“Having had dengue fever that’s very scary,” read one comment on it, highlighting how mosquito bites, even in Australia, can be way more than just annoying.
Dengue-fever-carrying mosquitos are present in North Queensland and being bitten by one can become life-threatening for some people.
This is why having protection against these tiny, buzzy monsters is so important.
How can I prevent being bitten by mosquitoes?
The most effective way to stop the itch and any nasty diseases is not to be bitten in the first place.
Of course that’s easier said than done, especially if you love camping, caravanning, picnicking or just any activity that involves leaving your house.
Traditional measures include insect repellant sprays but good luck with that if you have little kids. After having sun cream smeared over them all day even the prospect of a bite-free night makes spraying more stinky stuff all over them a hard sell.
Plus, so many of the super effective sprays include deet, which is a chemical banned in some countries and should be used sparingly on children’s sensitive skin.
The NSW Health website says: “Mosquito wristbands and patches are not recommended as there is no evidence that these provide good protection against mosquito bites”, adding “Natural or homemade repellents provide limited protection against mosquitoes.”
Meanwhile, it’s advice to “limit outdoor activity if lots of mosquitoes are about,” doesn’t really work for the thousands of campers about to take off for their summer holidays.
How to keep bugs at bay when camping
Fortunately though there is a new answer and it comes in the form of a portable bug zapper perfect to take on a camping trip or pop on your outside table.
Called the Zap Guardian it provides a 360 degree anti-mosquito shield, covering 45 square meters around it.
It looks like a small camping lamp and actually doubles as one with a powerful LED light included.
This same UV light attract mosquitos but, instead of drawing them in for a feast, it zaps and kills them.
It sounds too good to be true but the reviews rave about the product
“As an avid hiker, I just thought mosquito bites were part of the outdoor experience. But not anymore! Zap Guardian has kept me itch-free and bite-free on all my adventures,” said one happy customer.
“This bug zapper has made camping trips much better. No more sleeping with one eye open!” wrote another.
“I love being outdoors, but mosquito bites were a problem. This bug zapper changed that. Now I can relax outside without constantly swatting bugs away,” cheered a third.
How to safely stop kids from being bitten by mozzies
The Zap Guardian is completely non-toxic so it’s safe to use around kids and pets (who will love you for it). It has USB and solar powering charging capabilities so it will be ready to go whenever you need it and it’s even weatherproof if you need to use it in the rain.
