The “Carnival” rapper, born Tyrone William Griffin Jr., welcomed his only child in February 2005 when he was 22 years old.
As Jailynn got older, Ty became more aware of how his rap career and public image affected her. In an October 2020 interview with W Magazine, the artist shared that his then-15-year-old daughter paid attention to “everything” he did.
“She came to that stage last year when we were having a conversation and she hit me with the, ‘But Dad, you did this’ when I was telling her what to do,” he recalled. “That made me realize, 'Alright. You can still be who you are as an artist, but at the same time, she’s paying attention.' ”
Now, Jailynn is grown — and her father is her biggest cheerleader. He frequently boasts about her good grades during interviews and celebrates all of her accomplishments on social media.
“She's 16. She's driving. It's crazy, man, how fast life would just pass you by,” Ty told The Fader in 2021. “She's still killing it though with her grades, straight A student, haven't ever had any real issues with it. Praise God. Such a perfect daughter.”
As for his role as a father, the rapper considers himself a “pretty good dad.” He added, “I'm learning every day. This is a new chapter for me, the 16 year old, but I'm learning every day and I'm focused and we're doing it.”
