After being called out publicly by Abbie Chatfield and accused of being a “fake feminist” earlier this month, former Married At First Sight bride Domenica Calarco has revealed the severe backlash this prompted has led to her deleting her social media accounts and checking into a mental health retreat.

Yet in a bizarre twist, previous comments made by the Sit With Us podcast host have now resurfaced showing how she once used her platform to contribute to a near-identical pile-on against fellow podcaster Brittany Hockley after Abbie called her out for similar reasons why she has now spoken out against Dom.

In December 2022, Abbie accused Brittany of not supporting women by “slut shaming” her alongside Kyle Sandilands and remaining quiet as the shock jock made jokes about her sex life on live radio, which led to Brittany receiving immense scrutiny across social media.

At the time, Domenica used her platform to back Abbie and blast Brittany’s actions, saying: “This really annoys me. Something I really think is a load of f**king bulls**t is women having each other's backs, and women don’t.

“I'm sick of people in the media, people who have podcasts, people who have some kind of social following, being all like, ‘Women support women! We love talking about women, we love supporting women’, but then going and doing that.”

Abbie recently slammed Dom and her co-host Ella Ding after they interviewed Jack Dunkley and Tori Adams on their podcast and failed to question the controversial groom on the “misogynistic” and “problematic” remarks he made on MAFS - specifically towards their co-star Lauren Dunn.

In addition to Abbie, who posted a 56-minute podcast episode detailing why the interview was so problematic, many people thought the duo went too easy on Jack and gave him excuses instead of holding him accountable.

Following the controversy, Dom took to social media on Monday to announce that she felt “psychologically drained” and would be entering a mental health retreat.

“Over the last month I have been struggling with some deep issues that have left me emotionally, physically, and psychologically drained,” she wrote on her Instagram Story. “Everyday, I am trying to be the strong, independent, and bubbly person that you all know me to be, but the reality is that I am not okay and the recent social media discourse has forced me to realise that I am at the end of my tether.”

Ella also shared a statement to the pair’s Sit With Us podcast group on Facebook, writing: “[It’s] been a weird time for Dom, me and even all of you being thrown into a media circus, some willing and some not so.

“I want to thank everyone who has posted positive supportive comments inside this group, I am reading them every day and I want you to know they go a long way.”
