A TV insider has revealed Robert Irwin's surprising "pet hate" when working on a TV set, saying it can "at times be awkward" for the young presenter. A source close to the I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! host says there is one thing he doesn't love to do on set.

Robert has enjoyed an incredible first year on I'm A Celebrity, even managing to be nominated for the Gold Logie, something Dr Chris Brown was unable to do during his time on the show.

"We all have a pet hate in our day jobs and the people you see on our television screens are no different," the source tells Yahoo Lifestyle, saying that while Robert is known as "the boy who could talk underwater", he dislikes reading too much scripted content off a teleprompter.

"It is not his favourite part of the job, and if we can get him to adlib more, he comes off looking more relaxed on camera," the source explained. "It’s understandable that a lot of his previous work has mostly been heavily improvised. Especially his work at the Australia Zoo. He can hold court for hours and is genuinely engaging with his passion for animals.

"Even with his international guest appearances on the highest rating American late night talk shows he is just interacting with the host and he really shines when he is in his lane."

Another source added, "You just ask a question and Robert talks till you ask another. He is great at filling the silence and everything he says is bright, fun and relevant. It is a real gift."

The insider says Robert's ability to come to life on camera is infectious, and given his two Logie nominations, one for the Gold Logie and another for Best Presenter, it's fair to say that he nailed his first big presenting role, despite any issues with a teleprompter.

A Logies organiser reveals to Yahoo Lifestyle that they noticed Robert was struggling a little "with pulling focus when reading off" the teleprompter, adding it was "awkward" at times.

It comes as several 2024 stars from I'm a Celebrity said Robert "had more takes on set than Shane Warne probably had cigarettes", claiming the show wasn't live.

"We were made to watch take after take – it clearly wasn't live!" confirms another 2024 celebrity about the challenges throughout the season.

However, the insider added, "There are plenty of very successful TV presenters who also hate teleprinters. Eddie Maguire doesn’t like them and he certainly hasn’t let that affect his career."

"He hates teleprompter work and would like to be more off the cuff, which suits his style. When he gets given the chance to speak, he just fills the space."
