The Project star welcomes first child after 62-and-a-half-hour labour
Jessie Stephens and her husband Luca Lavigne have expanded their family.
The Project star Jessie Stephens has announced the birth of her first child, a daughter named Luna Lavigne.
The writer and podcast host, who married her husband Luca in April, took to Instagram on Tuesday to share the news that she had welcomed her daughter after 62 and a half hours in labour.
“Luna Lavigne. Born on the 2nd of July, three hours before her due date because she’s very punctual like her dad,” she captioned a sweet snap of her newborn in the hospital.
“But she also takes her time like her mum… And so arrived after a 62-and-a-half-hour labour but who’s counting.
“Seeing her face for the first time was the best moment of my life. After making podcasts and interviewing people about birth and postpartum and all that for so many years I can somehow say it was STILL absolutely nothing like I expected. It was so much more.”

Jessie’s followers quickly took to the comments to congratulate her on the news, including Lucy Durack, Sally Hepworth and her Project colleague Sarah Harris.
“Congratulations you glorious woman. So beyond happy for you,” Laura Byrne wrote, followed by Brittany Hockley who added, “Ohhhh my gosh congrats beauty! What a little angel!!”.
“Oh my Lord, Jessie… she is perfect,” Lisa Wilkinson shared. “And you are magnificent. And grandma must be OVER THE MOON!!! All the love and beautiful blessings in the world to you and Luca and beautiful Luna. She doesn’t know it yet, but she is one very lucky little girl.”
The Project announcement
Waleed Aly also announced the exciting news live on-air during Tuesday night’s episode of The Project.
“One of our dear Project friends has given birth to a beautiful baby girl,” he told viewers. “We’re referring of course to Jessie Stephens and her husband Luca who welcomed lovely Luna Lavigne on Sunday.
“I don’t want to give you all the stats, but it was a 62-and-a-half-hour labour, which is, I mean half the audience knows what that means. Jessie said even after all that, seeing her face was the best moment of her life, which is understandable.”
