The Masked Singer: Amy Sheppard may have revealed a huge behind-the-scenes secret

Do the judges have more time to realise who's behind the mask than audiences realise?

The Masked Singer's Orca left everyone confused about who the magical voice behind the mask was, and last night it was revealed to be Amy Sheppard.

The singer, who fronts the band Sheppard with her siblings, as well as having released her own solo music, had judges and fans of the show wildly speculating who she could be, with guesses ranging from Vanessa Amorosi to Natalie Imbruglia to Ricki-Lee Coulter.

As fans of the show know, the big reveal is the most dramatic part of the show, as the contestant grapples taking their mask/head off with an excited Osher Gunsberg standing by, ready to announce their identity.

However, Amy dropped an interesting tidbit to Yahoo Lifestyle in a chat today, talking about the process of taking off the mask.

"You don't remove your head, because the judges and the audience are in the room at the time, so you don't actually take it off because it ruins the surprise," she said.

"So you just pretend and then you go back [stage] and then if you actually are eliminated, you come back on and it's just the judges and there's no live audience and that's when you film the reveal."

Amy then said some of her mask had to be 'cut off' her in the actual reveal.

"I had two security people from costume come in and help me take it off, because it was quite a heavy costume," she said.

While she didn't say whether that happened backstage or onstage, it does make it sound like the actual reveal is a little harder to hide the identity of the person as they emerge from their costume, perhaps giving judges and Osher more time to realise who is hiding underneath.

Earlier this year in an interview with Yahoo Lifestyle, Osher credited his long career in the music and entertainment industry for helping him with the job of host and guessing who's under the mask as soon as they 'reveal' themselves on stage.

“I’m so afraid I won’t know who they are every single time but thankfully I’ve been OK," he laughed. “My brain is just full of a vast array of things."
